I'm at episode 29 and maintain my initial qualms about the fantasy elements in this drama. IMO, it would've been a really good political drama even without. Nonetheless, will continue watching because I'm curious about a few plot lines.
Honestly, not digging the whole "21st century memories" premise. Was his mother also from the 21st century or something? Surely the story could be told without this premise (at least up to this point)? I agree with his professor in the beginning about interplay of modern views and ancient history. I'm also bracing myself for the incoming cheesy life lessons given the title of this drama, and also his conversation with the prof in ep1: "Cherish the now and here," "Embrace life" ugh
I started watching after seeing this under SSS' Recommendations section. I'll continue watching a few more; I hope there's not too much of the above, so that I can just pretend it never existed in the first place.
I disliked how shishio’s story ended. I might be wronge but what I took from his conversation with Izumi is…
Contrarily, I liked Shishio and Izumi's (platonic) relationship. The way I interpreted it was that Shishio was never able to open up to anyone about his sexual orientation or in general, and Izumi was the first person he felt comfortable with. Izumi was a much needed friend (and an important person) for him. But it also remains that he is attracted to men and will likely never fall in love with Izumi (or any woman).
I read "to be together," in this context, as being good friends for as long as possible, rather than in a romantic way. Not every relationship has to be romantic. But I do believe that Izumi needs to come to terms with (read let go of) her feelings for Shishio, for unrequited-love, by definition, is not very fulfilling.
I much prefer this ending to Shishio being bisexual simply because I read their initial conversation (during confession) as him 'being gay' rather than his 'current crush being a man.'
There are only 8 episodes left, but the story is nowhere near the end. There are still so many plot lines and characters to explore! Will we have a new season, or an half-baked ending?
Also, might as well remove the Smart/Sly tags at this point lol. When will our smart leads start figuring out stuff?
Omg the letter BFX is reading is addressed to Xiyun! This means she was aware of her real identity (which I assume wasn't confirmed until now). There were hints in earlier episodes about her real identity but I just assumed she had amnesia or something given that she never mentioned this to HFX
Think subbers should have translated as the Four Gentlemen instead of gentry. It's basically a list of who's who…
Oh wow. I had looked up 'gentry' while watching the show but somehow I assumed it to be the 4 strongest/smartest characters. I thought it was confirmed that both ML and FL were part of "the Four Gentry," but going through the subtitles now, apparently not. I did wonder why Lanxi would be a Gentry but it makes sense now.
Was it confirmed Prince HC is one? I don't have the subtitles for ep 8 and later so can't check easily.
I watched the 1st ep and I was happy that for once the ML wasn't smart. But turns out (ep 2) that he actually is, and I see the tag now. Is there a cdrama where the ML is _not_ smart??

Man, I hope they show more of her in these last 2 ep; I'm most interested in her story after the main couple's.
Edit: looks like it's Netflix being hostile to VPNs :(
