This shocked me. I love this manhua and I be very excited after announcement that it will have drama but after…
The casting was a huge shock to me as well! I'm a fan of this manhua too, and was especially excited for this drama since the manhua's been on hiatus for so long. Dilraba and Wu Lei were like the last two people I expected to be cast together here lol. I'm just having a tough time imagining Dilraba as Wu Lei's Li Chang Ge and Wu Lei as Dilraba's Ashina Sun. Separately, I think I'd be more accepting, but given how the characters are in the manhua, the pairing feels kinda mismatched.
I really do hope they prove us wrong though and give this story and these characters justice - I want this to be just as good as the manhua.

I think the main proplem till now is the writing . The characters are one dimensional and we aren't given any…
Yeah, I agree with you bigtime here, and with your comment above too. The characterization so far has been so dull and flat. I don't think Lee Min Ho or Kim Go Eun are bad actors or anything, but I don't really buy them as these characters (yet anyway). The cinematography is beautiful, I think the supporting cast is doing pretty well (really liking evil Lee Jung Jin lol), there's potential in the setting (if we get some more world building!!)... but the writing..I think you're spot on with the fairy tale comparison. I hope the drama improves over the next 12 episodes, but so far it's been pretty.. surface level (at least in my opinion).

this has been on my "planning to watch" list for two years and has always been labeled as "airing" yet I've never…
Hey, I dunno if you're (or anyone lol) still interested in this drama, but YoYo just uploaded the whole thing to their youtube channel under the name "The Legend of Kublai Khan" (which I guess is a mis-title??). Only the first episode has subs, but its a start - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq_mB_crzKU

Does it take 40 episodes to solve 1 case?
I've watched up to episode 22 so far and I think we are on the 4th (?) police case now. The mystery surrounding Gu Jing (her accident and her past) plays out alongside and inbetween the police cases and it'll probably take most of the 40 episodes for the characters to figure her stuff out.
So I guess to answer your question - yes and no lol. The police cases just take several episodes to solve, but Gu Jing's case is a long term thing.

Watched the first 12 episodes -- actually pretty good! And kinda cute. There's Vietnamese subs, but no english subs (at least not yet, but I wouldn't really hold my breath :( ). Luckily the story isn't the most complex lol. Episode 12 ends on a nice, fat cliffhanger, just fyi.
Bonus fun fact -- Our main character, Xuan Mo/Abu Dory, is from the same planet as Tang Qing Ye/Abu Chacha from Let's Shake It!
