This has been on my watchlist for a long time, but I only started watching this now. This is so much fun. Love Sebrina here and Zhang Ling He is actually pretty good considering this is his first drama. Both have good chemistry. Even though the plot is cliche, so far this is pretty well done.

What does Mysterious Lotus Casebook have to do with HYX? I don't understand. That's an iqiyi drama while this is tencent.

I am watching this at a snail pace and just on epi 8. So far this is a decent watch. I’ve been reading the comments here even though I have not watched the latest epis yet so that gives me idea about the latest epis. LYN obviously has the most author-backed role in the drama. Reba is doing great with Anle. As for HY, I see so many questions and a bit of disappointment with the character and even some with Anle. The script did a disservice to the character of HY by toning him down in some ways and the fact that certain aspects of the story was simplified or omitted doesn’t help. I think GJ is doing really well here but I can understand if some people don’t find his character that exciting yet. It’s easier to be drawn to characters like LMX because they appear mysterious. I am waiting for the drama to show us HY’s complexity and GJ can definitely pull that of really well.

I also read some comments here before which said that they only gave a layered character to LMX because this is an idol drama and didn't want to make this too complicated. I have to disagree with this because most cdramas we watch are idol dramas and many of those dramas have several multilayered characters and even lead characters that are grey. Take Reba/LYN’s TLB or GJ’s WOH for example. Both of these are idol dramas and still very much loved. TLB had interesting arcs for all the four main characters and all of them had growth. WOH also had layered characters and GJ himself was so good at portraying the duality of the character. So for this drama, I’d say that this is just the case of the scriptwriters being lazy. Actually, the scriptwriters didn’t even need to do anything. Anle/DZY and HY are both so well written to being with; there was no need to change anything.

Novels and dramas are different and sometimes changes work for the better. But for this drama, the changes actually made the drama a little less exciting. The source material was already very good and they made a huge mistake by making changes and simplifying so many stuff. This is still a good drama all thanks to the source material. It just could have been so much better, if the scriptwriter didn’t put their own ideas (or lack thereof) into the drama. We’re halfway through the drama and I am hoping it’s going to become more exciting when Anle’s identity is revealed.
