To be fair the drama is very good. It was magnificent where it did well. It’s a pity that it will sit below…
The art style and costumes of the drama is inspired by the Mogao cave arts in Dunhuang, which is a city. It is an actual heritage site. Basically, the opening and end credits, the costumes, the flying fairies during MY-SJ wedding and the demon wedding, even the color scheme etc are all inspired from those cave arts. It is very much a part of their history and culture. Lost of people actually don't realize where it all came from. You can watch the art special here.

If you're interested in finding out more, do research Dunhuang and Mogao cave arts. It's all very fascinating and beautiful.

You can also find lots Dunhuang style dance performances on yt, but TTEOTM is the first drama who actually fully took inspiration from the cave arts and incorporated it in the entire drama.

Absolutely love her. She was incredible as LSS/YSW/SJ, especially in those intense scenes. I was a casual fan of her before TTEOTM, but now she's absolutely among my top favorite actresses. Wish they had kept her real voice here.

LYX also wrote a letter to Sang jiu as Ming Ye, after the dream arc ended. Saw it youku yt, should be there on the app as well. Haven't seen Bai lu's one as Sang jiu, I should check again...maybe it's there. LYX was wearing the same clothes at that time, so obviously it was filmed at the same time.
