Strongly agree with this! Especially in regards to the Emperor/Yingluo dynamic, I am of the same opinion, as opposed to those who think otherwise in light of the novel and different interpretations. I liked Fuheng a great deal and was heartbroken about him too, but the main reason I feel the same way in regards to Yingluo's affections is because of her character itself. From the drama's portrayal alone, I wasn't convinced that she would be the type to *fall in love* with the emperor, regardless of whether her love for Fuheng dwindled. I simply couldn't imagine their problematic shared past and his own character would allow her to.

I guess my one disappointment would be that Yingluo seemed to love the emperor - whom I greatly disliked - by the end of it and that Fuheng died unrequited (sort of). Nevertheless, it's nothing to do with the actual quality of the drama, only my personal preference and wishes for the characters.

This is such a BRILLIANT drama. I had little expectations to start off since so many similar C-dramas are full of underwhelming female leads and plots. However, Yingluo's characterisation was absolutely amazing and it won me over within episodes! I kept waiting anxiously thinking it might be too good to continue but it didn't let me down at all. So many good characters, and such a well-written story - highly recommended!!!

Some interesting stuff here that I want to check out.

I only recently watched 'Unnatural' and it was very enjoyable. I particularly like the screenwriter and am glad she won the award.

For now, I just want a successful and quality movie. Then I'll be happy even without sequels, knowing the manga is getting its well-deserved exposure. ^^

Indeed, I hope none of the actors disappoint! And I'm glad Hara-sensei will apparently be involved in the production.
I don't think the gore factor is much of an issue (the Japanese film industry has so much horror and other genres with similar content after all) for possible sequels - I'd be more concerned about the how they'll fit the battle-heavy narrative within a movie format. The rest of the story is technically better off adapted as a drama.

I felt the same about the anime - I missed it so much I had no choice but to pick up the manga lol. It's well over 500 chapters now, but it's so worth it!! Unless you're absolutely against long-running manga, I can't recommend it enough!

Haha while I get your (and everyone else's) distaste for the anime, it's what brought me to Kingdom in the first place, so I'm very fond of it. ^^
I guessed it might be the first arc which the trailer/cast pretty much confirms. It's perfect for a movie run time though, I can't wait!!

Ok I literally cannot stop smiling - this is an absolute timeless favourite manga of mine. I don't know how they'll adapt it into movie format for a story of such epic proportions, but I think if it's the first arc then it'll fit nicely. I don't know most of the main cast very well...but I want to be optimistic! That anniversary video (I can't believe it was a TRAILER!!) years ago looked so good, I'm hoping it was a reflection of the overall quality of this movie.

KINGDOM is honestly an amazing piece of work (even the choppy CGI'd anime) so I'm very very happy it's getting recognition in the form a big budget production.

I can't believe Solomon's Perjury was her first acting project?! Her performance was absolutely amazing! I really hope she continues acting and is given strong roles such as this one, because she's very talented and will no doubt become even better.

Yes, it's unfortunate and I don't disagree. I just wish J-dramas were officially distributed better to increase accessibility overall.

Well they put it up, whether raw or with available translations. Also, requests bring dramas to translators' attention as well, including legal streaming sites like Viki.

I'm over halfway through this drama and it has been nothing but utterly disappointing. It turns the 'legend' of such a significant and empowering figure in Chinese history into a total mess, focusing on crazy plots of love and jealousy - even that's not done well.
