I've seen worse dramas and this is certainly not that bad, but somehow it grates more when something with potential fails to live up to it. While I can see why it might be compared to Minglan, I think it's largely because there aren't a lot of historical Cdramas portraying purely domesticity and 'women's life' so it's inevitable. If those who watched Minglan enjoyed the refined subtlety, complexity of characters, and the many little things that came together to make it a masterpiece, then you might not find much to appreciate here. However, if you're looking for superficial similarities and aren't too fussed about some of the aspects Minglan excelled in, this drama serves as a decent (and shorter) watered-down version of it.
Thanks, I actually tried the first couple of episodes of that (since it was a rec for NiF) but couldn't quite get into it. Maybe sometime later I'll give it another go....
Can someone recommend me another worthed watching dramas with strong baddass / smart-ass Female leads like this,?I…
I'd strongly recommend Nothing Gold Can Stay - the female leads share a lot of similarities, in terms of emotional strength, intelligence, and forbearance. And just as Minglan handles household affairs, the NGCS lead handles a family business as the head. There's always the 2 Nirvana in Fire series as well, if you haven't seen them, for strong female characters and being great in general.
At episode 2, this drama is doing great so far. Cast aside (I mean they're all veteran actors after all), the plot and pacing is actually much better than typical natural disaster stories. As someone who's not a big fan of this genre (it tends to be all doom-and-gloom sensationalist drama with people running about), I'm enjoying its approach from an environmentalist point of view, and how it inevitably involves conflict with government, corporations, and media - just like what we are facing in the real world.
Dramas like this not only entertain but highlight relevant issues of our times, and since climate change is something I care deeply about myself, this resonated with me in particular. I really hope the show keeps up (if not improve upon) this level of quality until the end, especially so that Jdramas can debut with a bang on Netflix!
Fall 2021 drama series JAPAN SINKS: People of Hope to stream on Netflix same day as Japan broadcast!Tokyo Broadcasting…
Omg I really hope this means Jdramas, both old and new, will finally be widely available. It'd be amazing if there are more Japanese content on Netflix, as there are Chinese and Koreans ones (Jdramas are sooo hard to watch otherwise!).
I read some updates from japanese tabloids. they are currently filming 3 sequel movies at one go, which will normally…
Wow I really hope this is true - I wasn't even hoping beyond the 2nd movie so this is great news!! And if so, I won't mind the delay too much, as long as the movies are well-made.
I am excited about the sequel. Let's see if it shows more than season 3 or it will be up to somewhere in season…
There's no way it can get anywhere near s3 of the anime! There's too much story story in between - it might just be able to cover up till Ouki's death.

Unfortunately, since Minglan came out in 2018 I haven't come across anything nearly as good as these.
