it irks me when people often say female characters (especially the lead) are childish/annoying but she's just breathing???? maybe as a ladies stan i'm more tolerant but it does seem exaggerated - in the case of cheng yao it definitely doesn't apply! she's a bit clumsy and naive at times but i'd argue she's strong willed and trying her best
