YX and SYN had a daughter?! I would very much like to have seen that. Didn't seem that great to be YX's friend in the drama either, so at least that was consistent I guess. Those are some very curious changes to have made from the book to the show. I'm sure censorship had a fair amount to do with it, but some questionable writing was definitely at play in the drama. Just saw your review and deeply agree that there were some heavy flaws in the character and story design. Your review was more cathartic than the drama's ending!

Such a terrible, terrible burden. That book ending sounds so much better, although it makes me believe they must have changed so much of the story in the drama. Another book adaptation led astray.

That was definitely satisfying!

The more I think about it, the more upset I am about SYN's ending. Everyone else got brought back to life and/or reunited with their partner or family. Meanwhile, SYN sees her mom die, recognizes her brother as so disgusting that she has to kill him herself, and then has to disband her entire sect. The trauma! And she was tired before the whole thing even went down. We don't even see her get a little bit of peace, just out on some rock vaguely smiling at a twig-looking hair pin until she gets a corny tap on the shoulder. She's gonna carry the weight of this the rest of her life, but everyone else get a cute little wrap up but her?? Justice for my girl SYN!

Yea that seems highly possibly given how often that seems to happen these days.

Agreed, I could have gone for a nastier end to KYJ. Glad we at least got the fight reunions though.

SYN is definitely Kou Lianyi of the Liangyuan sect, but we never got the back story to her other identity.

We got even more fights than I was expecting! I was also happy that we got to see YX surrounded by his little chosen family, but that tap at the very end was corny as hell! What a sad ending for SYN who saw her mother die and felt obligated to kill her own brother. She will carry that for the rest of her life. Was glad to see KYJ go though, lol.

Prince Fu made the order, but Nangong Fang carried out the order and directly coordinated the massacre.

You called Jin Bao being alive! I'm glad to proven wrong on that one. And a very cheerful goodbye to Kou Yuan Jie's dumb ass. RIP Mo Bu Fan and Kang Qiao though, still sad about them.

Jin Bao lives! LOL. Just glad to have him back. And glad that Shu Yanan didn't leave her buddy hanging.

agreed, the tone switch was way off for what was going on in the story. they wanted so bad to turn the mystery into romance but the integration was far from smooth.

It was indeed a dirty fight. people got what was coming to them in the end

I like this theory and I want so much for it to be true! I don't trust KYJ to do anything that is logical and in the sect's (or even his own) interest though, and has already shown that he's willing to sacrifice whoever for some power while simultaneously too stupid to manage it. It seemed like YX was determined to save MBF and actually had some sort of plan for the fake death, but I agree that this is an extremely risky move in Yuntai. YX said the fake death poison would work for 3 days, so I was thinking maybe they would go get MBF after he was buried somewhere.

Huh, I never considered that. I would love JB to be alive but sadly I don't think so. He's the only one we got a modicum of mourning over. Zhang Beidou definitely was hard to control, but did seem a bit predictable. I'm suspecting (hoping) that the final twist is that YX tricked MBF and MBF is still alive. Because otherwise I agree with you, there really isn't much to look forward to in the story.

Agreed, I'm not expecting nor have any desire for a major fight with KYJ, I just want him gone. I am holding out for a good fight from Mama Kou but you may be right about the older characters, even if she seems pretty sprite. I wouldn't mind seeing another good fight from SYN but that may be less of a priority at this point in the story. We haven't seen a real fight from NGF either yet and I'm definitely hungry to see SYN take him out in a gruesome way.

I feel similarly, although I suspect it might be more of a script and direction problem. It really feels like they didn't even give space in the story for grieving any of these deaths. Not gonna lie, I did get a little teary when YX was toasting JB's sword sheath and making the posthumous oath to be sworn brothers, but even that scene felt a little manipulative, like they wanted the audience to believe for a moment that JB was still alive.

Seriously though. It really dampens the emotional impact of these really heavy events.

That's what I'm hoping! I really think it's possible that YX still faked MBF's death, but I guess we'll find out.

Yea the the romance is a bit off with the tone of all this death and no time to grieve for any of it!
