that kind of rhetoric teaches people to be afraid instead of teaching people not to rape. it makes survivors feel like they failed at protecting themselves, as if being harmed was a result of their choices. plus saying “we all want to be blaming johnny” as if it’s some exaggerated emotional reaction completely downplays the reality : johnny raped akin. there’s no “want” about it. it’s what happened. your mindset is very tone deaf and dangerous. if we truly care about minimizing sexual assault, we need to stop implying that victims could’ve prevented it and start focusing on why some people think they can violate others in the first place.
