i don’t think he ever thought anyone else would get hurt because of him. he probably believed she was only after him but now that he’s seen she’d hurt anyone to reach him, the guilt’s eating him alive. he blames himself for everything so leaving is his way of protecting everyone and not dragging them into his mess anymore.
