No wonder this film has a low rating, it's not a chick flick at all. Beautiful melancholic atmosphere. I will be watching more of Anthony Chen's works.
No. Unlike the vulgar propaganda of Schindler’s List this film stresses emotional impact over sensationalism. There are no heroes with plot armor, and certainly no Japanese saviors.
A captivating emotional film. Nothing is exaggerated for cheap effects, neither the bad nor the good. The violence feels like fate from which nobody can escape.
A festival film with little action, long takes and strange dialogs. But unlike many other festival films this film has humor and the characters are likeable. As a bonus the film's Chinese is easy to understand and it comes with English subtitles, which makes the film highly suitable for Chinese learners. The women in this movie are completely forgettable, the plot feels messy and rushed towards the end. The other Yin-Yang Master film has more depth and maturity.
The most disgustingly liberal Chinese movie I've ever watched. The men are portrayed as weak doormats, some of the dialogs could be direct quotes from the reddit feminism sub. China should investigate who was financing this film, it looks like US subversion.
Good plot and acting, terrible directors. Some of the scenes reminded me of an amateur movie, like the gunfight with no sense of urgency or the arrest. Could have been great with a more competent director.
If anyone is considering watching, the men in this show are not interesting, the only attractive girl is "K" but she calls herself a queen and she acts like it. None of the CP will survive long-term. Maybe only watch the last 2 episodes for the romantic confessions, they might give you some inspirations.
Jiang Qi Ming is an outstanding actor. He's so good that I had to go check if he's deaf in real life. What a huge difference between him, an Academy of Drama graduate, and the typical idol actor who can't do anything except look pretty. We need more Chinese quality dramas with quality actors.
