I do believe some people are willing to love despite anything. Specially, Song Yan is someone that was able to see through Xu Qin since the beginning (like in the scene he understood she wanted to be called Xu Qin and not Meng Qin), so he knows she's not a bad person. He also knows her family situation and why she's the way she is, he understands her better than anyone.

I don't think the writing is lousy at all. It all makes sense. The characters aren't simple or fickle, the situations aren't simple either. There's nothing rushed and the clichés are very well written, it all makes sense.

Maybe you're not in the mood for this kind of dramatic slow burn, but this has been very good so far

I'm a Xu Qin and Song Yan defender. They can wrong as much as they want to put out their frustration. My babies suffered too much, they deserve to get it out of their chest ✋

Any scene about the greatness of some profession is a propaganda. In the entire cdramaland, the party propaganda isnt much actually, most of them are about the ideals of Chinese society and how they should work hard towards it.
