I don't think the second couple is the only problem, even the leads get me bored. But it is true it would be better if not for the waste of time on the second couple. I also don't see anything new in this drama. I've watched too many romances and romcoms, all of these plots and characters are common in these genres. Even so, they managed to make it sooooo boring. I mean, an I-will-make-him-love-me-and-then-break-his-heart is so common and it's usually such a fun plot, how did they make it so tedious?? Esther acting as her celebrity persona isn't anything new, too. Bubble female characters are everywhere and I've known Esther since before her debut, so watching her being all cutesy is no big news.

They meet again years later, when she's a beauty blogger that hides her identity as a smart but "ugly" country girl, and he is a famous botanist. He doesnt recognizes her and she plans to make him fall in love to break his heart like how he did to her. Both end up falling in love. She find out he never got her letter at the time. He leaves the country without saying goodbye or leaving a message. He comes back later decided to get her, but she's still heartbroken. I still havent watched what comes next but pretty sure he'll pursue, she will forgive and they'll get together. Anyways, this all is done in the most boring note ever, I watch every episode almost sleeping.
Your last two points are things I love about iQIYI and what makes me wish all my favs work with them. Even their modern dramas have great photography. They're a feast for the eyes

I have no idea, I saw some rumors mentioning it but not specifying. I've read the book and my guess is they will take out the part about both being smokers as adults and teens, her learning smoking from him and them having s*x when teenagers.

The part about dating rumors, lusi side denying and fanwars are facts. The part about it being one of the reasons for no cp promo is speculation but pretty obvious. A S+ drama whose only promos from the leads were video lives? Doesnt make sense. Even for You Are My Glory, YY and Reba had to put out statements asking for fans to stop fighting, but they still went on tv shows, had tiktok videos, special performance, Disney date and still follow each other. We can only guess that situation is the reason why they decided to keep distance publicly.
at first it's a bit slow. but if you manage get to ep 20++ you will get one of the sweetest drama in history 😊
lemme me add: it's only so long bc they cut the episodes to earn more money 😅 it was supposed to have 27 episodes, 40~45 min each, so it wouldnt seem like a lot of time
