It's not much of a cop show, I agree. But I'm not gonna lie: I've had a crush on Wang Zhener for years and was over the moon to see her in something so femslashy. So if that floats your boat, the ~sismance~ is quite cute to watch. Although there wasn't enough of it. I was hoping there would be some more intense character stuff regarding their relationship towards the end of the series, but there was none. I don't mean romantically, but generally: you know the usual cop show thing where the trust between two partners is put to the test, etc? That sort of thing was what I was hoping for, but they didn't bother.
The plot details are repetitive (how many people can we have confessing to a murder they didn't commit, just to protect a family member? How many bodies can we dump into a wheelie bin?) and sometimes utterly ridiculous (like how they suddenly decide the Big Bad must've manufactured illegal drugs, with zero evidence, and they start hunting them for drugs). And hilariously, Tech Liu seems to be in charge of everything technical or forensic: dude does a) biological testing (i.e. staring at test tubes while looking Very Serious), b) phone call tracing, c) computer hacking (!!!) and heaven knows what. Yue, on the other hand, seems like a cop version of Joey off Friends; a manchild who seems to be about to exclaim "How YOU doin'?" any moment.
It's kind of a shame, because we don't get enough cop shows with this kind of female-heavy casting. The two leads are very talented actresses; they absolutely deserve better.
So, yeah, only watch this if you get a kick out of femslash and/or enjoy watching those specific actors. As a cop show, it's not worth your time.
Would Love to Watch this.. but ENGLISH SUBS ARE NOT ALLOWED 🙄
It's insane so many people want to see this and have been asking for subs, but nope. IDK why they can't even allow crummy autotranslation on YouTube so we could get the gist and/or someone could get started on creating better ones. Odd that they put so much money into some of these series, and manage to get in actors who can actually act, and then... no engsubs. Whereas some really terrible, cheap web stuff gets subbed. I don't get it. I'd much rather watch something that at least makes an attempt of being historically accurate-ish than the same old pastel wuxias where everyone looks the same and the plots are just a bunch of cliches strung after another.
This kid is such a good actor! It's so frustrating he doesn't get better roles, while talentless prettyboys get the leading parts and are dull as anything, just walking through their parts and hardly emoting at all. And yet he can make the characters feel real. It's not like he isn't handsome either, so it'd be great to finally have this guy as a leading man since he has talent as well. So, c'mon, cdrama producers!
Probably already mentioned in some of the comments below, for subtitles let all keep filling in the forms for…
Thanks for linking to that form. I've been despairing about not knowing where to ask for subtitles for a couple of dramas. It's frustrating that there isn't (as far as I know) just one place on the Internet where everyone could ask for subs and where the subbing teams could be better informed of which shows people want subs most for. I constantly see hundreds upon hundreds of subtitle requests on the ChinaZone YouTube channel and yet they do nothing; it's insanely frustrating, especially when it comes to seemingly high-quality dramas like these.
Rarely have I seen as many requests for engsubs as I have done with this series, yet none have shown up anywhere :( Even if it's rubbish, I'd still watch it for that cast alone.
Didn't really care for this one. It was one cliche and improbable coincidence after another, and the camerawork tried to be all kinds of edgy and artistic, but it just got distracting and annoying after a while. They really overdid the wobblycam and the gimmicks with this one; I actually had to look away from the screen sometimes because I was getting so seasick. I mean, I like my wuxia in all its melodramatic OTTness, but even those OTT manoeuvres can be served in a balanced way to make the story work better. Here it was just gimmick after gimmick, and every plot twist was predictable. Even run-of-the-mill action movies are usually better than this. Shame, because the cast was pretty good.
You can see this video to know more about the particular update
2030 sounds bizarre; that can't be right? I wonder if someone involved with the movie has been "cancelled" by the government (friends of the alibaba guy? IDK?) and had all their work put on ice?
I can't see a video link anywhere, if you meant to include one. I appreciate the reply, though!
Does anyone know why her brother objected to the them being together?
He just thought the guy was shifty; plus brothers can be like that, over-suspicious even if there's nothing wrong. Can't really tell you more without spoiling it. I really liked the brother guy; can someone please add the name of the actor who played him into this entry?
They released the first posters of this in 2017. Do you guys reckon it's ever going to come out? Or if it had some now-disgraced actor in it and was shelved indefinitely? Anyone have any legit info on the situation?
We do really need more engsubs for this gentleman's TV series oeuvre. Got into him thanks to The Empress of China and while he's not my "type" as such, I was really impressed by his acting and his "tough guy but with a heart of gold" charisma. Would really love to see more of his work made available to international audiences in the future. Especially as most of his stuff that's available engsubbed now is really miserable, gritty arthouse drama that's bleak and depressing, or trashy action stuff (however entertaining the latter can be). I'd love to see more of him in his romantic, historical and comedic parts. Here's hoping for more engsubbed Fengyi!

Edit: nevermind; dumb question. Looks like it's gone up on Youtube since I last looked. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jNGLQlpTzAg
