Just starting to watch ep. 2. To comment on your post, she is an independent woman in a traditional society, and I also think that someone high up wanted her dead. You see in ep. 2 that she faced many assassination attempts and has a sixth sense to avoid them. I think that you are right in that she was falsely accused, but I suspect the nephew Mundo might be someone she knew. (She doesn't recognize the ML, so he must be someone secondary in the past) Possibly Mundo is the guy whose face we can't see. He might be villain in the past and in the present.
I'm not bothered that she wants to use the ML to survive. It replicates her past history and others in the harem. And to tell the truth there are many women that use their spouses to throw their weight around. And suck ups do the same for men. Thank you. Back to the drama.

Li Ge Yang was the ML in Dominion and Devotion. (2025) Well regarded mini-drama and 2ML in In Blossom (2024) He was good in that. Eleanor Lee was the FL in My Love Enlighten me (2020) I enjoyed that one. Plucky heroine. And the lead in Fake Princess (2020) and the 2FL in Why is He Still Single (2025) Enjoyable.

True, but it should be a clue the someone's backstory is more important than you have been lead to believe. And the wolf attack lead to the missing shoe and like an onion, layers of info come out. And not so obvious, but after you watch ep. 37 (35:05) you might think what happened then can be traced back that chance encounter in ep. 11.

It was more with the director Zeng Qing Jie and screenwriter Zao Lin combo. imho. This is Deng Kai second time with this director and it seems that his popularity received a substantial boost. But he is too good at being a bad boy to replicate Ryan Cheng's path.

I would recommend A Familiar Stranger (2022) 18 episode - 12 minutes each. The director for Pursuit of Jade (2026) 40 episodes - 45 minutes each. Zeng Qing Jie cut his teeth and established his reputation on mini dramas. He has a reputation for being a good storyteller and rising the level of his actors. Two couples, the second star crossed but HE (Happy Ending) Easy to understand and not dependent of people/youtube explaining details of relationships/story like Pursuit of Jade.

Over 500 bodies were recovered and countless injured. (ep. 19 - 14:11.) Lin'an was large enough so that Yixiang Restaurant was standing room only during festivals (ep. 8 - 29:23.)

Watch Deng Kai in Butterflied Lover (2023) 2ML and Governor's Secret Love (2023) ML and Love of the Divine Tree (2024) and the Wanted Detective (2025) both support roles and in all he leans towards being good. Then there is Destined (2023) guest role and Follow Your Heart (2025) support role where he is a villain. The first two are favorites and you might like the first one, but the princess in that one is kind and gentle. It wasn't a drama with lots of fight scenes. Take care.
