is anyone else finding it hard to make it pass the middle? the momentum from the first few episodes was quite good, but around ep17 it started dragging

This project took two years to release. What about rushed production? The producer waited to get both Cheng Yi and Li Yitong. This has been publically posted on his social media. So what are you talking about?
Why would you assume I don't know anything about C-ent? You're blindly lecturing someone who's literally Chinese. Can I not to be critical of my own country's actors?

If I don't blame the actors for bad acting, who do I blame? Good actors can shine despite a bad script just as bad actors can fail to deliver with an amazing script. Not all actors are talented, and not every actor is going to be universally loved. It's just unfortunate that this project was the final straw for these two for me.
Li Yitong is one of the best actors of the 90s gen so you're seriously missing out if you cut off all of her dramas.…
I finished A Dream Within A Dream and I've seen episodes of The Knockout and Dear Missy, so it's not like I haven't seen her in other stuff. She's just not as captivating to watch as Yang Zi or Zhao Lusi, so I end up dropping her shows. This project just cements that. But whatever, my opinion doesn't stop you from enjoying her works.
some people hating just because they hate the ending.. it's not a happy ending.. all fsmm series has bad ending.…
Wangquan Fugui and Qingtong are both alive after the battle with the Black Fox in the comics, so it's not unreasonable that people are upset with the drastic change. In fact, Hongye/Baye is also alive.
I think someone earlier in a comment said the Chinese OL title is "Heart of Sword" and then the localizers…
It's called "Heaven and Earth Sword Heart" in Chinese, but honestly, it's one of the better translations. The source material has a romance between the two leads so I don't find "Sword and Beloved" that exaggerated. The fact that the Chinese title was changed from "Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Wangquan" at the very last minute says a lot though 🙄
This show single-handedly convinced me to blacklist Li Yitong and Wang Hongyi purely on their acting ability alone, so that's something I guess.
In all seriousness, 6/10 is pretty generous considering half the drama is filler content. Despite a few other iconic scenes, the story at Peach Blossom Village is really only where I get the FSMM (comics) vibe. It's really a shame; the costuming, visual effects, and soundtracks were all top tier but the plot and characterizations struggled.

The wording of this is kinda weird.. Cheng Yi didn't forbid anything. He just let his fans know that he's busy and don't have plans to attend any events.
Cheng Yi didn't single out iQiyi. He's literally on set working on a production of theirs. His schedule is really packed right now between acting, dubbing, and endorsements. There's no reason for iQiyi to be upset unless his fans keep trying to push this narrative.
I enjoyed this drama so much I started reading the novel just to get more content. I think it's better to keep the two distinct though, they both have their charms.
I honestly feel like the production should've committed more to the transmigration aspect. Instead, this feels like a project where everything was sampled a little bit and nothing was outstanding. The editing is also kind of a mess.
The most interesting character to me was Li Chenzhou, and he definitely didn't get enough screen-time.

Solid all-rounder. Good re-watch value too.

Shout out to Cheng Yi's stuntwork though!
