The Crown Princess is very evil. Princess Xinnan is very spoiled but pretty cute/innocent.

The Crown Prince and a lot of the other characters are very pitiful. If you keep watching/reading the novel, you'll probably feel sympathy for all the characters (even the despicable ones). The novel actually makes me want to cry at some parts because it's written so well/beautifully. But maybe drama watchers feel differently since they may not know all the internal thoughts of the characters.

Prince Han changes, but not because he wants the throne. He was not ambitious to begin with, and doesn't want to be the emperor either. He just wants revenge.

As for Prince Zhou, he "forcefully" fed Fu Rou medicine (and kissed her) so you can say that's kinda rapey, but he doesn't actually try to rape her. He's not a bad guy, but the situation he's in puts him in a position where he literally sees everyone as his enemy. Prince Han and the Crown Prince have the same mom (the Empress) and the Empress wants to make sure that her son will become the future Emperor.

Anyway, basically, everyone changes because of the circumstances they're in. There will also be drama between the Crown Prince and Prince Han. Fu Rou remains good throughout.

Chumu's bro in law is a pretty comedic figure but he changes later on (not really evil, but the palace's circumstances make it tough). The crown prince is afraid to lose his position and sees everyone as his enemy. It's actually really sad, and touching too.

The author is really good at making you understand why each character is the way they are. Keep watching!
