K-Drama I'm not sure what it accomplised
For starters, I was a newbie to the themes presented in the story as I watched the show. Korean indepence and Righteous Army were brand new subjects for me. This show is not a good diving board for anyone who has little to no knowledge of these themes.
Sure, the action genre can distract from the several questions I was asking. You don't have to be a historical scholar to enjoy a well choreographed fight scene. But it helps to know who and what to root for in the fight scenes, and I didn't think the script explained conflict well enough to understand the who's and what's.
In vague terms, this is kinda like a western meets Robin Hood meets Tarantino. That's the style of the show.
In other vague terms, Male Lead fights... cause he... knows its good? He leads a group of ruffians... who are all on the same page about Korea's future? There's a girl. I don't remember her playing any vital role. There's another girl... bitter cause... reasons. She is vital... but I can't remember why... which might mean she's actually not vital. Blood and foul language is the director's idea of edgy storytelling, not well-crafted plot and conflict. And I'm not sure what was accomplished by end of show, for both fictional characters and real-world creatives.
Did the characters succeed? Did they make a dent in Japan's tough armor? Did they bring any good or hope to the people in the area?
I'm drawing a blank.
Did the director make a worth while cinematic story about rebellion and justice? Did the screenwriter recieve awards? Did this story highlight a genre or style that needs to be revived?
Not really.
It was not my cup of tea.
