yes!!!!! exactly my thoughts!!! XiGu has always been the tragic character and that way they kind of made the audience feel like his destiny has already been written since ep1. Which is obviously terrible and I also wish they hadn't gone THAT far, but I also find it very fascinating how they created said melodramatic tone through little things like editing, music, lighting, etc.

I know most people hated the ending and of course it's horrible and frustrating but for me it also kinda made sense? like they kinda managed to set a melodramatic undertone throughout the entire season and in my subconsciousness I kind of had an inkling that it wouldn't end well. i can't really explain it but I think they did that in a very fascinating way by kind of foreshadowing the tragic climax at the end.
