Yep. The bulging eyes in early episodes just made me laugh. In the last few there was a bit of an improvement in that he was pissed off at Jiuling and didn't twitch all over, but then he spent five minutes sitting at his desk, evil giggling, while Jiuling just looked done with the whole thing.
Look, I like an evil giggle on a man (see avatar) but it has to be natural. I've accepted and learned to love the 'I'm a villain' facial cues in c-dramas, but Du Ya Fei needs to cut that crap down, by half.

I only watched this crappy show because of Yu Mingye (Wang Hao Xuan), and for him I put up with racism, terrible storytelling, fat-shaming, rape apology, etc etc, only to get that awful non-ending.
I mean, all of Yu Mingye's parts were great, but that was it. Must watch the Viki thing!

I don't care if it's earned or not - I need escapism in my escapist dramas. If I find out early that there's an unhappy ending or ambiguous ending, I will spoil myself and decided whether it's worth it.
For example, Goodbye My Princess? NOPE. Twisted Fate of Love - ehh, Jin Han makes up for a lot. Song of Glory? No, I'm not going to watch 53 episodes only to find out that if you watch it in THIS way, and interpret this scene, it might be happy.
And I still want compensation for sitting through Novoland Eagle Flag.
Also, while unhappy endings irritate me, I'm more annoyed over the "well, we ran out of money so we're just going to end with the two leads looking off into the distance as a cloud covers the sun" (yep, I mean you, Dance of the Phoenix).

The Untamed! I'm glad I watched it first, because of my boys, of course, but mainly because it got me over the threshold of WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON without any complicated politics - if I'd started with Nirvana in Fire, for example, I might have given up.

I just can’t behind the way the actor is choosing to play the rule - the bulging eyes, the twisted, exaggerated expressions, it’s just so overdone. One of the last episodes I watched , he spent five minutes evil laughing at Jiuling, just, DUDE, too much! Tone it down!

Having spent an enjoyable few days reading through Counterattack of the Cannon Fodder Chambermaid, I'd like to thank you for the recs! I'll definitely track some of the others down.

However, I really don't want any of these to be filmed at this point. Having watched a few episodes of the trainwreck that is General's Lady, and realised what the perfectly charming The Young Lady of the General's House was turned into, I'd rather not see it happen to poor Xiao Hua and Repressed Jing!

I mean, Mo Dao Zu Shi already had a huge fanbase before CQL started filming, so when the people who come up with idiot plot ideas (hey, what if Wen Qing was Wei Wuxian's girlfriend?) started trying to film them, the entire fandom rose up in protest. Yes, there were still changes, but the essence of the novel remained the same in the web-series.

But these webnovels don't have that much clout, and so we have the total mess that was General's Lady (I'm harping on it because I like the leads and I was looking forward to it a lot).

Was there any reason - besides idiot plot - why Dongyue had to make her resetting time jumps so short? Seriously, she needed to go back so much farther than half an hour or a few hours, then she could have fixed the situation better.
But I guess it was all the flute's fault, or some dumb reason like that.

Avenue X is such a hypocrite - she only sees the faults in dramas she dislikes, if she falls for something (anything with Zhao Lusi in it, apparently), she ignores a highly problematic scene played for laughs - I unsubbed her after that one.

Yeah, I don't get it either - I love Jin Han, and it was his great performance in Princess Weiyoung as one of the villains (so many villainous hot guys, dammit!) that made me want to track down everything he's in.
I honestly don't care about actors' personal lives unless they're, you know, evil. I care about the character and the performance - if it's not convincing I'll stop watching. And Jin Han is convincing in the role (and have I mentioned he is hot like fire? Whenever he does a leap or sits in a way you can see his thighs, I'm like MAN IS THICC ).

Yeah, I just reached the amnesia plot and I'm wondering why I'm bothering. But the thing is, I watched the last episode, and there was a montage of Feng Xi and Dongyue's greatest hits, and I'd like to see them. So I'm 'watching', where watching means doing a lot of skipping.

It's weird - usually I say that the actors in these historical dramas look much better with their hair down rather than scraped back from their face - Jin Han is a case in point (and when he's wearing the dark blue robes with the embroidery along the shoulder - ooooooooooh). However, Dongyue is literally the only actress I've seen so far who looks like a total pushover with her hair down, but as soon as it's up she looks a thousand times better.

So, I'm back. Maybe because it's finished now, maybe because I'm doing the clever thing and skipping all the second love story nonsense, maybe because I want to see more of Jin Han, and Jin Jiuling is taking its time.

Just finished ep 24 and why can't he leave her the eff alone? She doesn't want you, jerk! She didn't want you when she was a princess and she faked setting herself on fire to get away from you, among other things!
I love this series - thank god for Extra with lines 1 and Extra with lines 2 for explaining to me why Zhu Zan couldn't just say 'Jun Jiuling is my fiancee' - because he's the son of a Duke and his parents are still around, he can't decide on his marriage, and she'd be totally humiliated if he came up with that and then his father denied it.
Though I didn't appreciate them comparing Jiuling's situation to "like 3 men fighting over a courtesan at the brothel" - not cool, my guys. Not cool at all. That's my girl you're talking trash about.

Yep - at one point in the beginning of the episode it looks like he has nude lipstick with shimmer on and it’s super distracting.

I've also decided I'm not gonna let myself be manipulated by people who are crossposting the same thing over several BL comment sections.
Look, I know it's bad news, though it's worse for those dramas which are still in pre-production or just started filming.
However, I can hardly believe that a media company is going to write off millions of dollars of investment into an already filmed series, which has to be three times the cost (if not more) of something like You are my glory, which has no CGI and is set in present day (so no need for fancy sets/expensive costumes).
But that's just my opinion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
