I know 🥲 to me, the two biggest what ifs that hurt too much if we think about it are:
1. What if Ah Jin got into law school? She might live a different life and might become good prosecutor, judge or attorney on solving the cases.
2. What if grandma didn’t die and she finally escape this hell and live happily with In Gang’s family?

I really think that Jun seo is Ah Jin's curse, he's always behind of all of her problems :- Her dad found her…
During Ah Jin’s birthday after cutting contact with him for a year, Jun Seo mentioned that his mother treated Ah Jin bad so he’s willing to do anything to help her because he feels guilty. Ah Jin immediately replied you don’t have to and she had gotten over it and she’s fine. For some reason, I feel that she really mean it when she said that, because even when JS’ mom came to her about JS’ investment, she was like so sick and tired of it.

She was also kinda pissed when JS trapped her to become FL for his novel adaptation and she had to oblige because of his investment. When they’re arguing in his apartment, he asked if she actually fall for In Gang? And she avoided that question. I mean, if she didn’t feel anything, she could just replied no and told him she would come back as promised, and when he tried to lean in and kiss her, she avoided him again.

The story is very straightforward. Their a creature that can take in human form and the hunter are frightening…
I guess not really straightforward to me because I have so many questions. Like how did this earth fiend took human form? who the hell is Ms Lin? What made the hunters be so loyal to protect human from the creatures? I understand Blade & Hound, but kinda confused with Whip’s role. Why do Ms Lin’s group (forgot the name) came to the welfare house and put Gou Ya there? And why the hell they keep the Locust and feed it when I thought they’re supposed to kill them?

I understand it’s just the beginning and it’s still in building up phase, that’s why I said I’ve so many questions. But so far I haven’t fully invested and hooked with the storyline.

Title Dear X Spoiler
So I decided to rewatch ep 5-8 because the whole Ah Jin x In Gang plot is interesting.

Here’s the new insights that confirmed my take that Ah Jin did like being in a relationship with In Gang, she liked (not loved) him because of the things he gave her - fame (power), security, family and kindness. That’s why she went over a year than her original planned and she shed tears for him when he died. But it’s conditional, that’s why when grandma died and he’s no longer in the right state of mind, thinking of retiring and somehow blocking her career with marriage news, she lost respect and no longer see him as someone valuable to her life anymore.

Conversation between AJ & IG during the break up:
AJ: Grandmother’s notebook, I stole it. I wanted to win her favor so I could date you. She found it at my place not long ago and she found out what kind of person I am. And from that shock, she…You understand what I am saying?
Ah Jin: Sunbae, how you fell in love with me, and what happened to your grandma…
In Gang: What did you do?
Ah Jin: All I did was tell her the truth.
In Gang: I asked what did you do to grandma?!
Ah Jin: I simply told her honestly…for once in my life.
In Gang: Say that again!
Ah Jin: If you don’t let go of me now, you’ll be in hell everytime you think of her. You’re not the type of person who can handle that.
Ah Jin: So admit it, our ending was already decided.

She deliberately being vague and made In Gang hated her for causing the death of grandma which she actually felt that it’s her fault as she had her hope. Noticed how she mentioned “hell” because that’s what she feel after the death of grandma that she can’t escape from this hell and she’s being punished for having little hope. Knowing how soft hearted In Gang was, she knows that it’s best to just leave him because he wouldn’t be able to take it. Though she didn’t actually kill grandma, she blamed herself too as she’s being careless about the notebook, causing grandma to feel sad and not eating the whole day which caused her to have dizzy and fell down the stairs. By the break up scene, her heart has gone dark and she’s no longer relying on hope and with In Gang’s mind was no longer aligned with her goal, she had to discard him. That’s why she said she can’t go down with him together and asked him to understand her.

If we jump to the conversation between Ah Jin and Jun Seo’s mom, together with the flashback of what happened between grandma and Ah Jin:

Ah Jin: Do you know when I hated you the most?
*In Gang’s voice: What did you do to grandma?

Back to the flashback of Ah Jin & grandma

Ah Jin: I admit… that was my intention at first. But I like In Gang oppa so much, so I…wanted you to love me too. I’ll take care of it, I’ll tell In Gang oppa the truth and end this.
Grandma: Look at me, until now, I still stand by it, you’re my one of my children just like In Gang and In Mo.
Grandma: When your child does wrong, you scold them, and embrace them again. That’s what a parent does.

Then Ah Jin admitted that she’s wrong and nodded when grandma asked if she won’t do it again. And grandma told her to keep the truth to just between them. At this point, she had her hope to escape from “hell” and live with grandma and In Gang.

Back to her conversation with Sun Jeo’s mom:
Ah Jin: I hated you the most when you were kind to me once in a while, because I would be tricked by your kindness and started to like it (fall for it). I was afraid of having even a tiny bit of false hope. That’s what scared me.

When Grandma showed kindness, she’s afraid before and didn’t trust her though she felt good about it. With the incident, since grandma still accepted her when she did wrong, she started to like the kindness she received from grandma. Then when grandma died in front of her, her last hope and last lifeline shattered in front of her.

Ah Jin: But now I know for sure, in hell, hope is something you should never hold on to.

Ok back to the break up conversation, Ah Jin said to In Gang that she simply told Grandma the truth and she’s being honest for once in her life. So she liked him, and she really wanted grandma to love her because she craved for parent’s love and that’s what grandma had been giving to her. So that’s the time when she’s being honest for once in her life, because she actually wanted that life.

Some might say, but she’s a sociopath, she doesn’t know about love and care about others. Sociopath can love someone but it’ll be conditional and to her benefit, which both grandma and In Gang did give her what she wanted during the relationship. She’s also capable of shed tears for others (when grandma fell off the stairs and when In Gang’s death), but I take it as more for herself that she lost what she actually wanted and she couldn’t break free of this “hell”

Watched until ep 3, just like Yan Tao, I have so many questions and I’m so confused. I’ll give couple more episodes to see if I’ll be hooked or not, so far it’s just average, intrigued but not invested.

I really don't understand anything. Her mother died, she killed her father, and she took revenge on those who…
She’s not looking for new victims. If you really watch ep 5, she’s just living her life as rising actress at first without creating any problem and having a target X (just like how she lived happy high school life after Sung Hee’s incident) then it was Jun Seo’s mom who came to the agency and complaint about her and made scene at her workplace and Lena got into her nerves. After JS’s mom scene, Lena provoked her and she warned her that if Lena keeps acting like this, she would regret it. That’s what triggered her to climb further up by using In Gang. She also mentioned to CEO agency that she’ll climb up to avoid this incident (JS’s mom coming in threatening her) again.

Either she’s from wealthy family or she still have her savings as she’s been in the industry long enough.…
Her plan is to ruin Ah Jin just like Sung Hee in high school. She sees Ah Jin’s true color and mask, so she’s all up against her now. Classic stuck up b*tch who’s jealous of other who’s better than them, the one who started to messing around and played victim when the other person bite back.

Whether the writer decides to keep her a sociopath, turn her into a full villain, or give her character development,…
SAME. I’m too invested in Ah Jin’s life story that I don’t care whichever route the writer wants her to take. It’s just interesting to see the ripple effect of her actions and decisions.

Lena is so strange? She’s had a fat scandal, lost her career so what is she doing? Why’s she hanging round…
Either she’s from wealthy family or she still have her savings as she’s been in the industry long enough. She’s already very popular when rooftop murder incident which that was like 5 years ago, so it makes sense that she still has her accumulated wealth as it’s only been over a year that her career’s ruined, it’s not like she went bankrupt after the scandal.

because a sociopath still can harm an innocent person who has been good to them for a year, even if they’ve…
But it doesn’t really fit into the storyline because the motive of murder isn’t that clear for grandma. So what if grandma knew about the notebook? she could just use that reason to break up with In Gang and back with her original plan of dating him for a year as she’s successful now and she has become more popular. I just don’t see how killing grandma would benefit her in any way as it would ruin her career and what she’s working for, so there’s no strong motive in the first place.

Ugh, I can’t get this show out of my head. I keep thinking that Ah-jin being so ruthless during the breakup…
I totally agree with your take because I think the same. Her cruelty during break up was intentional and she’s angry at herself as well as blaming herself for grandma’s death. She might’ve blamed herself for not being careful with the notebook and let grandma knew the truth which caused grandma not eating from day until night and eventually caused her to have headache and fell down the stairs. She might also feel that she’s being punished for having that little hope.

Why would anyone think that Ah Jin is capable of killing In Gang’s grandmother? Like grandma was the one adult who treated her like her own family and AJ trusted her enough to give the passcode of her home. And so far those people who pissed her off, she never wanted them dead except her own father because she couldn’t get away from him and he would always gonna bring her down if he’s still on her life. Sung Hee, Lena, police officer and heck even Jun Seo’s mother, she never planned to kill any of them or planned their death. What made you guys think that just because grandma knew the truth about the notebook and that she purposely approached Grandma and In Gang would make AJ kill her? Make it make sense! The person who should be on her death list is Jun Seo’s mother if anything because she treated her bad, abused her, tried to sell her back then, chased her out on the street, and then always came to her life when AJ’s tired of her and wanted to do nothing with her.

yea coz shaped by ahjin since they were child.. no wonder he turned out that way as well..
Blame his mother tho, like imagine seeing your own mother is capable of killing 5 y/o girl infront of your eyes, and the same mother chased out the little girl when her father went to prison and the same mother also actually planned to sell that little girl for child prostitution. That’s messing up his head and he didn’t heal from that trauma. Yes, Ah Jin treated him nicely to use him, but she wouldn’t be able to do so if his mother is actually decent. She can’t use his guilt to trap him if there’s no guilt in the first place.

If the grandmother couldn't believe her lies maybe she might have killed her or caused harm. You can't blame jun…
No, she wouldn’t kill her because it would be a perfect reason to break up with In Gang and back on her original plan. She’s not someone who would make her hands dirty by killing people which would cause her having a scandal and ruin her career. That’s why she didn’t even directly kill her father because she didn’t want the crime to be pinned on her. She’s repulsive and acts when needed, she’s sociopath not psychopath that’s why she’s sloppy in her plans and we could see that she’s always trying to control the damage afterwards. Grandma forgave her, then great she could continue being in In Gang’s life, if grandma didn’t forgive her then oh well, she would just break up with In Gang then but in her own terms, not by In Gang knowing this whole thing from grandma 🤷🏻‍♀️ When grandma forgave her, she admitted her mistakes with nod and had her hope high and then shattered when grandma died.

Why is nobody talking about how much of a gentleman my man In Gang is?
Indeed he is and they look so good together. I’m still devastated with what happened to him and what could’ve been if Grandma is still alive. They might have arguement with the whole marriage proposal, but I don’t think the break up would be too cruel and Ah Jin would still receive the love from grandma. 😭

Ajin was actually happy with In Gang and grandma When Jae ho asked her if dating was fun Ajin said she was happy…
Unpopular take: Jun Seo wants to be with Ah Jin regardless if they’re miserable together. All that talk about Ah Jin being happy with Jae Oh is because he didn’t feel threatened with Jae Oh, so he’s okay with that. He sees that Ah Jin is happy with In Gang and he felt threatened by the relationship that’s why he set the trap of requesting Ah Jin to be the FL of his novel adaptation to bring back Ah Jin to his life when she cut contact with both of them.

He’s laughing hysterically because he was so wrong about Ah Jin and it shows that Ah Jin genuinely cared about In Gang’s grandma. It somehows give a message that she did care about In Gang too, that’s why she went more than a year on the relationship.

It could be that way too, he simply committed suicide, but since we don’t really see it and how drama always have plot twist, that’s why viewers are putting out this theory because the timing is kinda fit in with the introduction of this new CEO guy
