There was some brief fandom scuffle on weibo yesterday which thrown this topic up - whether Xiangliu's 大义…
My main thoughts on this is that Xiang Liu fans are trying to defend themselves from the allegations that Xiang Liu's is a villain. Another distortion going on for reasons some of us are very well-aware of. That part of the discussion should have been brought here as well because I also have many thoughts on it.
Long story short, this is totally related to a fandom war. He ain't rebellious, Chenrong's remnant army is a Resistance army and not a rebel army (invaded people don't rebel, they resist), and Tong Hua herself has made it clear that Xiang Liu is honorable, righteous, and loyal.
Weird, I see more hate for Jing and a lot of support for XL here. I would prefer everyone just have more love…
LOL the Viki timed comments were such a crazy battleground. I may have contributed to the mean Jing comments but only because it ain't a secret to anyone to whom my heart belongs 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, you joined this party late but already understood how everything works. Xiao Yao is such a messed up character…
Homie, you better stick to it because it's far from simple 😭 we have been discussing this for a whole year and the only consensus is that there will not be enough Kleenex boxes in the world for what the ending will bring.
TBH, in my opinion, the only flaw in XL is wanting to try to bring those two together :D I don't really care about them, nor the bish, so that endgame thing means nothing to me. The point is that they will get together in the end and it's such a cringe fest, because in the novel they don't even have a wedding night. Xiao Yao was busy getting drunk after she finds out XL died LOL! That's one of the best parts of the story, but it was obviously cut out because there's no justice in the world and we can't have nice things :)
P.S.: Interesting that you say the "bad guys win the war anyway". Who do you consider the bad guys? I for one think Xiang Liu's remnant resistance army is far from being the bad guys, or terrorists as they're usually called. So yeah, you got a point there.

Initially, when I first joined here in August 2023, there were plenty of nasty comments aimed at people who were team XL. We have been called names, we have been threatened and all sorts of "nice things" from the supposedly "good guy" team. So fast forward to 2024, and now that more people are aware of the novel, the drama, the acting, and a myriad of other factors, the overwhelming support is for XL and deservedly so, just as many of us have figured out way back when. Some since 2013, when the novel came out, and some in 2023, when the drama came out.
Oh, but there's one crucial thing. Some nastiness has spilled into real-life too (the actors and so on), so that sort of gets people riled up. Because it's not cool to use those dishonest tactics to achieve whatever it is they want to achieve, even when we know this is the modus operandi in the industry.
So I don't think people deeply have hatred in their hearts, because this is all fiction anyway. At least I would hope so.
Oh yes, I remember when I watched LYF for the first time. My conclusion is that all of the main characters are…
I think we will have to see when season 2 arrives. Season 1 doesn't give much evolution in the way you're hoping for. There's a major event for one of the main characters, which is nice to see.

Let's say he absolutely dies for a good reason, he protects his soldiers, his cause, makes sure there's finally an end to the war, and as if that's not enough, he still makes sure she gets everything she ever wished for.
The only problem is that without him all this is pure sadness because he's the best and only the best ones seem to pay the ultimate price 🥺

I have really bad news if you're expecting to see these two crucial things: 1) Balls; 2) Evolution. Well, unless they turn season 2 into Pokémon Evolutions.

Yep, agreed 💯. The storytelling is great, the two kids were great, the world building is very solid. But then, there's the enjoyment issue. The main problem for me is that I can't bring myself to like the FL, sympathize with her struggles, much less root for her or be happy for her decisions. Oh, and my guy dies. So there's that. I still don't know why I've been hanging out here for almost a year, but it is what it is. Can't seem to move on.
I just started watching the first one and from what I see; XY is a red flag. She’s all about holding grudges…
Yeah, you joined this party late but already understood how everything works. Xiao Yao is such a messed up character I can't even. Hence why everything she says, do, lies, is always to be taken with a HUGE grain of salt. Interesting that you use the term red flag. It's usually thrown on one of the guys when in fact this is a feast of terrible people, our heroine included.
There are rumours that the production team are making changes to the story of S2 to make Jing look good and it…
We have read the leaked script, and while it doesn't seem like we will get all the Xiang Liu moments we deserve, it is quite interesting to see if the production team really made the hilariously awful mistake of making a character "look good" at the expense of the most beloved character. Not to mention that the implication of it. Why try to make a character look good? Wasn't he supposed to be great in the first place?
While some bitter people again come here insult people who like XL, I rewatching my favorite moments with him…
They'll have a hard time trying to negate the fact that the only reason most of us are even remotely interested in this is the one character that overshadows all the others. It's been like this with the novel 11 years ago and it shall be like this once again in this year of our Lord Xiang Liu, 2024.
I need her to end up with Xiang Liu somehow I don’t care 😭
Ideally, if she was a completely different person with a completely different worldview about what it means to be a survivor and a strong, independent woman, I would absolutely need her to end up with Xiang Liu. Especially because he's the one who heals, empowers, and quite literally brings people back to life.
But being as she is, her fate couldn't be the most appropriate. Xiang Liu deserves only the best, even if for him it means the path he chose. 🥺
P.S. I can't believe I've actually typed these words. Talk about character development 🤣😹

I would actually prefer something like A Journey to Love. At least we would mourn for everyone, the good ones and the annoying ones 😹
