The current 8.0 rating score (it can even go lower as time passes) further proves my suspicions that the lower the score, the higher the chance a drama is actually good. Considering the media illiteracy these days, combined with the shorter attention spans, it would make sense how some dramas are rated so highly by the masses versus some truly underrated ones. Interesting phenomenon, specially when it comes to films. Look for the lower ratings, friends!

The reason is mostly the “happy ending/is there romance crowd?”. Terrible dramas with plenty of kisses and a big wedding in the end get 8.5+ ratings but God forbid a drama has some serious themes and no obvious happy ending. Instant low rating :(

Sad for his character or sad for the audience? It looked to me like he got his wish. He wished that no matter how much the world changed, his friends and the people he cared about would live happy and peaceful lives. Yes the price was high but he’s now free of obsessions that plague humanity. The others may carry on with their lives but there’s no telling they’ll be happy forever, free of obsessions and other human sufferings.

Tang Li Ci is in no way comparable to Tushan Jing, and going by that logic, no female lead that matches Tushan Jing could possibly be worthy of Tang Li Ci. Yes, I understand you meant a FL for you to connect with and cheer for, but still, a very peculiar example to use. Tang Li Ci sacrificed his life to save everyone he cared about. Talk about selflessness. Jing sacrificed nothing and had everyone saving his life instead. If we’re allowed to draw comparisons, then Xiang Liu is the only option. Man did everything in silence, saved people so many times and died without being acknowledged. But died happy knowing he accomplished the best goal he could ever have for himself.
As for female leads with depth, A’Shei is worth of praise on her own terms and she served her honorable purpose in this drama. Tang Li Ci’s journey was never meant to be in a couple with anyone. He’s bigger than all that.
