No, there isn’t a clear happy ending. There is a “non-tragic” ending, which is not the same.

And do not get fooled by the simplistic view of “every character got what they wanted most hence it’s a happy ending” because getting what you want is not a guarantee of happiness by any measure.

Yes! That fireworks scene is so heartbreaking. Xiang Liu was doing what he always does, fighting and getting hurt in order to protect others, while those clowns were partying as if they had no cares in the world. The funny thing is that no longer after, Xiao Yao was murdered. Tong Hua is so clever in her writing.

But anyway, XY actually deserves Jing. Xiang Liu is far too good for her. Selfish people deserve each other. Lol when I start roasting, it’s hard to control myself.

They seem to have stopped marketing that weak relationship, because even though Jing is the "endgame" he is never in any promo. Not sure why. They should be pushing for it hard, but it seems the best they could come up with was to reduce Xiang Liu's scenes and relevance to the story in order to elevate Jing. Pretty pathetic, but that's sort of the theme anyway. I hope book readers let their disappointment be known.

People coming in blind and believing the marketing will have a big surprise when they find out how underwhelming the ending of this story will be. WeTV keeps promoting Xiang Liu as if he was the ML.

So much this. In what universe is this guy someone to be rewarded with a "non-tragic" ending? The novel is a masterpiece, but unfortunately, Jing ruins the whole thing for me, both in the drama and in the original story.
