Hi, I just wanted to ask you if I should continue the drama even though I like the characters i am not supposed…
All I can do is give you my opinion about the drama. I gave it an 8, which is a reasonably high score for me ( I give a lot of 7.5s for some teason, lol). I like a plot that is tightly woven and faithful to the story line,, and Sky Palace succeeds in this in some respects and fails miserably in others. How Hye-Na is dealt with in the story is a major fail IMO. And the law professor father—well he is just too ridiculous for words.
On the other hand, the drama does try to tackle a very important topic in Korea, even if it exaggerates things, as K dramas tend to do. The acting is top notch for the most part.
I would sum up by saying it’s not a masterpiece by any means, but it’s a watch that will take you out of your comfort zone, and one you will remember for awhile.
I understand why a lot of the commenters here don’t like Hye-Na. She was rather manipulative and a little scary. But you have to consider the conditions in which she lived and the obstacles she had to overcome. She actually reminds me a lot of my favorite female character of all time, Lee Ji-An in My Mister.
Okay I have 2 questions1. Why did they never show who actually killed Hye na? Maybe they did and I was blind af(probably…
No they never explained in detail who killed Hye na and how they could have done it. It’s all quite ridiculous because the killer would have to have known that 1. Hye na would be out on the balcony by herself, 2. Woo Joo would be wearing a red hoodie that night, and 3. that Woo Joo wouldn’t have an alibi ( he was surrounded by friends for Pete’s sake!) Ridiculous. And the fall didn’t even kill her. It took the laughable plot line that they only had one doctor who could operate on head traumas (the others were all drunk!) to ultimately kill her. Just absurd. The writer obviously didn’t know how to explain all the holes in the murder scene, and didn’t even try. A big FAIL for that part of the story.
I know there isn't romance between the leads, but do they have a strong platonic relationship like "My Mister"…
I found it very different from My Mister, where the leads start out adversaries but end up soulmates who will do anything for each other. In this one I see the relationship as generally one-way, with the FL intrigued and captivated by the ML, while the ML’s interest in the FL is rather casual and haphazard. I don’t get the sense he thinks about her very much unless she happens to be in his field of view. In My Mister both were constantly thinking about, worrying, caring about each other.
I started this because of its FL Zhou Jin Mai from “Reset” (what an amazing, thrilling drama that is) but I suffered through 15 episodes of this turgid story and had to quit. Nothing interesting happens, at least through episode 15. Not to mention the ML has the personality of a potted plant. Always staring at the FL like she’s the Mona Lisa. I know most of the women on this site are all under the spell of this moody guy, but for me he’s one-dimensional and boring.
If you are a plot-driven viewer like I am I don’t think you’ll like it.
I can’t believe that the story revolves around the murder and mutilation of a little girl. I kept thinking in the cave scene, “Oh, they won’t go there, they won’t do that…”. And then they did! I’ve never seen anything like it in a K drama, and not often anywhere else. Just horrifying.
In 2023, I found it at Kiss Asian. Lots of pop-ups, but only at the beginning of an episode.
Actually I kind of hesitate to recommend it. The first half kept my interest as it mostly focused on the characters as kids, and I loved seeing vintage Kim Yoo Jung. Jeez she’s gorgeous in this. But the second half really dragged, and I couldn’t get over the fact that UE (who I like as an actress) looks nothing like KYJ. I would say start this 41 episode Goliath at your peril, unless you really like Makjang.
Main couple's chemistry is to die for. But I'm not interested in other side couples so I ended up skipping a lot.…
I agree with you about the jumping back and forth in time. We learn in the very first or 2nd episode that they end up married, so there is no suspense. I really don’t like it when dramas don’t tell the story in a linear manner, although I did enjoy this one despite that.
I'm watching "Forever and Ever" right now, and the main character says he loves "A Step Into the Past" so much he watched it 79 times! So I guess I'll give it a try.
This is probably the first time I've decided to watch a drama based on the recommendation of a character in another drama, lol!
I’m only on episode 8 but have grown tired of the ML doing one stupid thing after another that unintentionally hurts people, and all the while keeps a goofy grin on his face. So I started reading the comments here and realize the 2nd half isn’t going to be any better. I should pay attention when a drama gets a rating under 8. It’s almost always not very good.
Nobody does painfully shy quite like the Japanese. I sometimes caught myself leaning forward and :::willing her::: to get the words out, lol. Still, I enjoyed it for what it is, a simple but sweet teenage romance.
