Man, this ahjussi blew my mind with every single project I've seen him star in. Unlike so many hyped actor he actually has great talent and is a versatile actor. Once he's the one on the screen I'm unable to focus on anyone else but him just because he's always so charismatic. Now I'm on a quest to watch the rest of his work that I haven't seen so far.
watching this in 2020 after having read many recaps of this show in which almost everyone called SKJ dumb left and right. it's nice to know that his image is not like this nowadays and he not only gets praised for his acting but many people see him in a different, more positive light. this guy HAS actual & deep thoughts, he's not just a pretty face, though i can see why people used to judge him for his behavior. the way i see it, his social skills are just not very good. he himself stated multiple times that he's an introvert and doesn't like to be in front of many people. but at the same time you can totally see how nice and genuine he is. though i was getting some 2nd hand embarrasment watching him struggle interacting with Bom and some of the others. if he seems dumb and awkward i can only imagine how weird i must be perceived in similar settings, because i too have a hard time having the simplest conversations with people i don't know that well or feel comfortable around. some have it easier some don't, but i don't think there was ever a need to mock him for this. though ofc as every tv show, this one was scripted as well to get reactions from the viewers but still.
LDW is super sweet and thoughtful although i knew this from before. his sense of humor and comedic timing is GOLD. SGY and Chanyeol are so nice too. most of the cast didn't really grow on me, especially PMW. his jealousy and passive agressive behavior towards Kang Joon was unneccessary and lame. that bathroom talk was way too cringy. though manners are extremely important in SK but the 5urprise guys did introduce themselves in front of everyone and no one really minded that they didn't start with going up to everyone individually, so PMW lashing out on SKJ was probably more about his jealousy. i didn't feel like he really liked SKJ as much as he claimed he did or that he only said that to him as a hyung because he truly cared about him. it's just a very different energy around him when he's with Kang Joon than, say, how Dong Wook treats Kang Joon. despite all of Kang Joon's awkwardness, Dong Wook's responses and reactions towards him are a lot more natural and honest than Min Woo's passive agressive remarks about him. but to say something positive about him, he seemed like a good choice for a variety show as he mixed pretty well with the others.
unlike Ga Yeon (and NaNa whom I warmed up to after a while) some of the other girls were sometimes irritating and gave off bad vibes imo.
overall the concept of Roommate was great in theory but they just couldn't really pull it off that well. some episodes were truly entertaining while others were all over the place and a mess. it's a shame, it would have been a great show with some alterations, but it was still pretty fun all in all.
ever since i first saw him in cheese in the trap he hasn't ceased to amaze me. he's extremely talented and i hope he has a great future ahead of him both career-wise and in his personal life . (oh and he's so handsome i can't help but fangirl over him lol . i don't think i've seen anyone else as gorgeous as he is)
