Their relationship is not like in the novel but its oozing tension everytime they are together.
Novel Duke Su is like here but in terms of how he liked the FL, its not instant. He is the type who can kill her if she gets in the way. He is intrigued and curious as he watches Jiang Li in her "play"
Then he somehow gets pulled into her play...unwillingly, more like humour me type kind of way.
He even asked her "why should I save you" at the time she was being held by the assassins. And Jiangli wagers her life and somehow he ends up saving her and since her life belongs to him now Jiangli always uses rhe line, she cant get easily killed since he is there to ensure his protection but even this Jiangli is uncertain until when rhe Duke will protect her.
But from Jiangli saying that her life belongs to him so she wont be reckless to lose it to Duke Su being " Your life is mine so dont easily lose it." But there is already sizzling innuendo there...like imagine him using the fan tilting her chin saying that (they have that kind of thing in the book)

Yeah, the actress may be good but she looks mature. I mean comapre it to the rebel princess still same, look mature for the role theyre playing. I mean its obvious that Jiangli and Xue Fanfei, you can see she doesnt look her age
I believe Duke Su fell in love with XFF when he first saw her as Shen Yurong’s wife. He probably admired her…
Thats why I cant get into the romance, in the book theyre wary of each other. Theyre neither enemies nor comrades but the intrigue and mystery is there. There little interactions leave Duke Su either amused,intrigued or curious.
Like in the book when Jian Li was cornered by assassins, I love that scene.
Duke Su was : why should I save you. He is literally there. Their tension even had the assassins felt tense. Like at that point she somehow pulled her in her play and he steppped in half heartedly. She wagered her life, and told him her life is up to him so in a way she told him she wont be careless but at the same time she implied that since her life is in his hands now, its also his responsibility to make sure anyone wont take it.
Those little smirks when he says those things, he slowly likes her and she becomes bolder as well and confident.
