most cross dressing you can't even believe people would be fooled by that but The King's Affection at least its…
When I first saw the actress dressed as a guy in the trailer I thought it looked super believable! At least compared to many other cross-dressing dramas/movies I've seen. I guess the voice could give it away but I like to think about it as if she has a youthful male voice xDD
If you are new to xianxia and watch this first, you might set the bar too high and end up being disappointed by…
Honestly they're all good. I personally watched Ashes of Love first but I enjoyed all the ones I watched. I'll make a list of my personal favourites in no particular order:
Ashes of Love Ancient Love Poetry (the one with Xu Kai, like you mentioned) Love and Redemption (I'm currently watching and enjoying this one) The Untamed Eternal Love Eternal Love of Dream
Oh you just wait, once you get into xianxia there's no escaping LMAOOO this is like my 7th one
Tbh xianxia dramas always tug at your heartstrings because they usually involve stories of two people in love that are constantly being separated by different cirsumstances-- namely problems with gods vs immortals, sects vs demons, one lifetime vs another, fate, etc. Yeah it's the same as a historical cdrama except in addition to swordsmanship it also includes cultivation (usually to become immortals and/or gods), different lifetimes [reincarnation], fate/destiny, people who are spirit beasts (like a phoenix, dragon, etc.), and sometimes ghosts [definition varies]. It's basically like the historical chinese fantasy genre. It's inspired by lots of Chinese mythology and folklore too. I'll briefly explain the difference of the Chinese dramas that aren't modern: 1. Historical c-dramas such as The Long Ballad focus on heroes or figures who are either based on real historical people, or are based on events that took place, or take place in time periods that actually existed. 2. Wuxia dramas such as Word of Honour focus on martial arts heroes who train and cultivate their internal energy to achieve a kind of "supernatural" fighting ability. 3. Xianxia dramas such as Love and Redemption focus on immortal heroes and are similar to wuxia dramas except they have more fantasy elements (like I mentioned above) and the characters usually aim to cultivate to reach immortality.
It's true that xianxia dramas are generally sadder but that's what I love about them. They really make you sympathize and empathize with the characters. All the falling in love, the heartbreak, the separation, the sacrifice, and the redemption and happy ending (most of the time lol) is what makes me really enjoy xianxia dramas.
This drama was actually so good. Call me crazy or something, but I judge how good Chinese dramas are by how much they make me cry. If they make me cry, then that means the drama has done a good job of making me invested in the story and the characters, and has successfully evoked (*cough* and played with) my emotions. Solid 10 for me. This is my favourite cdrama this year by far.
My top cdramas (in no particular order):
Ashes of Love Ancient Love Poetry The Untamed Eternal Love Word of Honour Nirvana in Fire Eternal Love of Dream
My favorite actress in this show is Jenny Zhang Jia Ni. Wuhuan's development is probably the most interesting.
Loll I hate her so much that I can't even care about her development. Like what, just getting more and more thirsty for power, betraying Shanggu who took pity on her, killing Yuemi, instigating wars, etc. etc. she's just SO despicable
I just finished this drama and my god it's one of the best ones I've ever watched. I never thought a drama could…
RIGHT?! I'm loving this even more than Eternal Love right now! Tbh Eternal Love grossed me out a little after Ye Hua got his arm ripped off um... but that's not the only reason I like this drama more lol
I am so surprised that most people like jung sun ah who was some kind of a low-life in this drama and hate soo…
Right now I detest Jung Sun Ah with a passion. Soo Hyun is slightly annoying but 100x more likeable than Sun Ah, who is just a manipulative b*tch [excuse my language]. I'm on ep 5 btw.
why do i genuinely love jung sun ah so much despite how vile she is....
I absolutely hate her right now and I just finished episode 5. Literally, there are no good qualities about her other than the fact that she's a strong woman who can hold her own. Trying to wait and see if I'll like her later on but she just seems so fake and awful and manipulative.
Okay, this was literally one of the best BLs I've ever watched. Definitely the best Korean BL. I'd say it exceeded my expectations, ESPECIALLY the last episode. I was smiling throughout the entire thing hehe
At this point I've literally dropped all the other BLs I was watching because I'm SO invested in this story. Really looking forward to the last eps-- although I AM a little sad it's ending ebfaljsbdfljbds
