language is so fun (and confusing)

i wonder which one is best! i hear viki has really upped their subbing game in recent years

i'm switching between chinese - english - my native language as i watch and wow the eng subs can really lose out on nuance/accuracy! a brief example: in ep 2 during the leads' first dialogue together, the translation of XH's line is simply "interesting" but what he says is more like "you're quite interesting" — i wish the translation wasn't so condensed in english! but it's also really interesting to see the differences heh

yeah unfortunately it can take a while due to copyright issues... i once had to wait a whole year for another drama's ost album 😩 hopefully with the double's popularity they'll consider releasing it sooner than later!!

seen some people say maybe july 13 or 20... i'm crossing my fingers we'll get it ASAP!

if you enjoyed WJY's acting, her character in story of yanxi palace is very very fun to watch ^^ as cnetz like to say: revenge is her domain (lol)

i must have missed your comment! i adore that detail now that i know of it. i'm currently rewatching from the start, and i find myself even more appreciative of all the subtle details that the director incorporated. and i'm glad that yuzheng fought hard to stick to the HE! i remember in another post he called this drama a sort of fairy tale—and we all know that fairy tales end with a happily ever after ^_^

when XFF visits JYB (JL's father) after XH leaves for war, she tells him:
"If [XH] can't make it back, I'll tie my hair and be a widow for the rest of my life."

in the ending sequence she's wearing her hair loose <3

definitely give it a watch!!! i didn't know about the age difference before starting and honestly it didn't stand out to me at all (i thought WXY was in his mid-20s haha). both the FL and ML act out their characters in a very confident/mature way, so there isn't an uncomfortable power imbalance(?) + they have a lovely push-pull dynamic without the usual annoying miscommunication/jealousy tropes

WXY himself said he was very comfortable acting with WJY 👍 he doesn't mind the age gap at all. and offscreen they've mentioned how they had lots of discussions about how to depict the slowburn romantic development between their characters ^^ it's very organic and not awkward

oh hmm weird 🤔 i wonder if they're combining the later episodes so they're longer? or maybe they'll have a different release schedule for the last 10

yeah they incorporated quite a mix of influences for this drama's styling! the pearls on the face was depicted in a lot of song dynasty portraits
