yes, the focus of the drama centers more on friendship and their journey together, the romance is only subtle but portrayed deeply (sadly scenes of the romance were cut but its included in the book published instead), the romance here is similar to love of nirvana, love game in eastern fantasy or the double not many intimate scenes.

Bai Jiu's blood is a mixture of all 3 - half demon, half mortal, half diety. His body didn't disappear/turn into ashes like the rest because he had mortal blood running in his veins whereas others that died had no mortal blood mixed in them.
Someone also pointed out previously, the reason Zhuo Yi Chen's cloud light sword failed to detect if he was a demon is because of this reason too.
