btw Toyohara Kosuke played a gay character in Bitter Sugar (2011) if you want to add him to your list of obscure gay characters. (You haven't updated that list in a while so I think you're not maintaining it anymore? xD) He had a small moment in ep 3 but no romance. 🥺

I don't know this for sure, but I think NHK has plans to rebroadcast it sometime in the future! ^.^ They finally put Kimi no na wa (1991) on streaming today, and Honmamon (2001) has been announced to get a remaster in October! Wakaba will get its turn eventually, I hope.

You can find episode 8 on Japanese platforms as it has already been released in Japan. English subtitles just won't be available until the 11th.

Episode 8 didn't air in Japan last week due to a scheduling conflict with another program, so it's scheduled to air on Sep 5 instead. It will come to Netflix International on Sep 11 since they're following the same one-week break.

Again, it is not Ichito's job to condemn his patients, so this drama would never take the stance of calling cheaters out. Imo, this drama is set out to normalize sex therapy and encourage everyone to be more comfortable with going into therapy sessions, not to normalize cheating. All the patients shown were indeed of the more extreme cases because they bring up issues that aren't usually discussed in everyday conversations. Otherwise, most of the time the typical patient would just be some guy who couldn't perform during intercourse. There would be no need to make a 7-episode drama out of that.

And I don't think a drama should be made to adhere to anyone's moral compass. If you're going to approach every japanese drama through the lense of "cheating bad" or "bad thing shown to audience means bad thing is being normalized" then I don't think there is anything more to discuss.

I'm afraid you are conflating his job with that of a couples therapist/counselor. A couples therapist is the one who MIGHT give you advice on whether to stay in your marriage or get a divorce. His clients specifically wanted their sex life to work with their marriage, so he had to look for whatever solution to fulfill their needs regardless of his own beliefs.

If everyone let their preconceived beliefs cloud their judgment, then jobs like lawyers or doctors wouldn't even exist. Why even offer service or help to people once you've already deemed them as "bad" right?
