When LiYuSen is driving to Wuxi the day he had the accident which ended his career, his memory flashback clearly showed that he fell in love with Xiguang at a social event beforehand, but from afar. Too shy to meet her or whatever, and the event is not specified.
SPOILER (I read it here) But the girl who wanted to meet him in Wuxi that day was Xiguang's non-step-sister, the one who is the daughter of her divorced Dad's longtime mistress. The wingman got the relationship wrong. That girl calls herself by the Dad's surname, Nie, but her mom never got married.
ep11-12, I felt as if LiYusen kept dropping remarks into his conversation with Xiguang which could sound as if he were speaking about a marraige -- i.e. hinting at formal courtship. Am I wrong?
And her obliviousness isnt annoying because she partly hears this and makes little halts in conversation to look at him and say a little 'what?' inside. And she doesnt do the kdrama girl response of laugh and dismiss.
The script also gives her a realistic basis for not being able to pay LYS full attention -- she is still processing the painful experience with Zhuang Xu. She isnt still in love with Zhuang Xu, but she seems not able to really summon the anger she should, which would break the tie. She will.

I was thinking that Cen Jin is taking care of him (initially) and the way she talks to him and behaves are exactly like any other chinese big sister or mom I see on dramas. LiWu doesnt have any financial independence in the initial phase. When he comes back and is independent he still wants to become her partner, which in a chinese home appears to mean letting her have her way a lot, also judging from other dramas.
So in general I see Chinese manners in dramas between younger family members and friends being somewhat more modern and brash than one would expect.
yes, by the end of 12. But I felt I was swayed by the soundtrack and the depiction of everyone as rong's victim. I still think Zhuang Xu's weakness and vacillation is horrible.
Oh, and I forgot negative space in the shot of YuSen waiting in the hall while she changes. It gives all the weight o Xiguang, her emotional turmoil under the radar...
ep11, When Xiguang goes into the restroom to rinse out her sleeve cuff, there are mirrors on both sides of her so we get lots of reflected selves while she struggles to find her own center of balance. Earlier someone made the comment that the technical excellence of the camerawork and cinematography was off the charts, but I havent really been paying enough attention...
Ep12 -- Zhuang Xu doesnt seem attractive to me either, but I am admiring the sphistication of the plot. A much more psychologically interesting and realistic love triangle than the usual fare.
ZH made NX suffer needlessly and horribly with his weird reversed class-snobbery. He is weak and vacillating and not strong enough to love the one who loves him, Ze Rhong. He let ZR torture and slander Xiguang and never stepped up to restrain her at all.
ZX is definitely an ASHLEY red flag! That is a reference to Gone with the Wind, a guy who wants to have his cake, eat it too, and still look all romantic and innocent at the same time...
Remember that Chinese actors are actually trained in realistic character acting and the audiences appreciate it. The hinge of the love triangle is the 22yr old Xiguang who needs to work through hurt feelings from the past and figure out the somewhat ambiguous start of her new friendship with YS.
The point being that both guys just have to wait!
Xiguang is still suffering from the suffering she endured during that long nasty non-relationship with Ashley/XhuangXu, and as usual with rom-com heroines she was so noble/hiding her feelings that she hasnt really processed it all. These girls always have a lot of hidden pride too.
YuSen who has been inlove with her from afar under a mistaken identity, is also written in a sophisticated way. He has turned on the charm ever since they agreed to forgive unclearly their 'pasts', but when he feels that internal resistance from her he hangs tight and steady -- not taking offense nor getting aggressive. A truly high EQ!
I needed this show for the holidays. A cute, stern, strong, fun FL. A wildly emotional and immature idol ML. Excellent production so far; that Korean style 'look', too cool. I can just settle back and not worry.
Wrap it up time. This show. This Show. It was so bad it was almost good. It was so good except for..... I really disliked the character of DaRim so much after ep8 that when (ep14 SPOILER) Amnesia makes JiHyeok revert to his pre-infatuated self and REJECT DaRim, I roared with laughter and cruelly applauded.
It almost makes it to the fantasy-club of party-night-watching-really-great-trashy-dramas, events distinguished by imaginary tacky witty snacks menu. This party will be populated by people who understand that mockery can be a form of love.
I loved all the endings and the 4th wall final credits were outstanding. I loved all the actors and laughed happily whenever I wasnt cringing. Directing and editing spot-on, comedy timing heaven -- except for DaRim's constant stumbling and falling.
I have the funny feeling that there will be days when opening a can and lying on the sofa with phone glued to one ear and one eye on Dynamite kiss will be heaven.
I still think Shin Joo Hyup (JH's secretary and the MomTeam buddy gofer)and Jung Gae Hee ((JHs really wonderfully emotionally conflicted older sister) should have had top billing instead of the parents because they really carried the drama structure on their shoulders.
However the performances of the parents by the actors who did get that top billing spot were quite important in the end to the plot.
