I am getting really old-fashioned vibes over the use of passionate in the english title -- it sounds like a 1920s novel about passionate youth building the future, usually involving architecture...

I think I meant the illusion of reality? But I also meant that the recipes are real ones, or at least someone made more of an effort than usual to make them seem so.

Judging from netflix/flixpatrol this is a worldwide hit, esp. in the spanish or south asian markets. I love its big production values and small sets. Enjoying myself mightily. As I have said elsewhere: real food! real food prep! people eating with real chewing sounds! Good comedic acting! Go Min Si keeping her own clever counsel!

Is this about older generation bullying younger people who are less deferential and demand respect? Hurray for the kids!

Working conditions are notoriously bad in SK as far as working hours and the temperature. I havent heard of the problems with snacks and heaters; keeping koreans from their snacks sounds dangerous.

Actors and crews need unions, and they dont have them in SK, so they have no protections from this crap....treating the elderly actors like that , many of whom are national treasures, is horrible...the whole scandal is too complicated. The outside workers are accusing the director? Anybody know more?

Obviously I am interested in unions and working conditions anywhere, just to put cards on the table.

I think maybe I do not understand the balance for netflix. Maybe I mix it up with viki which I understand better because the reviews are in other languages than English and I read them. Not that they like this or other stuff any more. I just have usually taken SK productions as a cultural whole and dont split it up into netflix and not netflix productions and/or between domestic viewership in SK , panasian viewership, south asia and the rest of the world -- on here I am guessing we are Indian, UK and US, right? Maybe also Saudi? Anybody?

The real question is Jeon Min's duplicity. What is he trying to pull with this whole the chef only wants to eat yr food bit? Does he really believe he can s***w her over again? Look at Go min Si's hard eyes and demeanor. Not going to happen.

I am impressed that mdlers are not impressed by YYS. Of course the showrunners hoped his cameo would boost ratings. Who could predict this would be stratospheric wo him?.

A rethink needed on the romance front. That was a lousy kiss but do not lose heart. She definitely has decided to be with Beom Woo, she drags him around with her and is never reluctant when he turns up on his own. Have no fears. All will be well.

Why does a woman have to wear her heart on her sleeve when we are following her character as the FL? Why dont we assume she knows what she is doing about her own career and heart?

Go Min Si is able to project an unusual reticence combined with self-confidence. I think viewers at this point should put their trust in Yeon Ju doing the right thing on her own schedule.

What, no corporate crime which will complicate KHS's conversion to honesty? That would be no fun.

ep 6 -- there was a lot of tension waiting for either the secretary to steal recipes or for the big reveal when Yeon Joo or or Jeon Min realize who Beom Wu really is. It was hard to get thru but not boring. The question is which is more winning for the viewer -- YYS's std moody 2ml vs. KHN's stagey but pitch perfect comedy acting.

Ha Neul comes from a theater tradition, while YYeon Seok has played moody muttering melodramatic before. Think The Gu Family Book () where YYS chewed up the proverbial rug in the background while Lee Seung Gi ands Bae Suzy blithely got on with that shaggy nonpreproduced gumiho story...

Look at the way they stand; YYS is in character with weirdly depressing bunched up shoulders and turned out feet, expressing his emotions in closeup with mostly his eyes, while KHN expresses his in perfectly controlled movement, quite a lot of it. KHN can handle medium/far shots and conversations with both characters in frame because he was trained on stage with a live audience and je can projec t over yards and yards. YYS is a film actor trained for the back and forth closeups ad infinitum. He looks lumpy in distance shots w/Yeon Joo.

I was not a Kang Ha Neul fan before this show, but I had never seen him do comedy before.

I like the way people actually chew with sound on this show, and that when they clean their plates their pleasure in the food is believable.
