An excellent plot device though, all of the 'good characters behave admirably.

As for Darim carrying out JiHyeok on her back -- Adrenaline.
(In addition to the usual apparatus needced behind the scenes in RomComs -- lifts, doubles, fancy visual deceptions -- you dont really think all the piggybacks home from the bar or the princess lifts in danger are real?)

Ha Yeong is so original in spirit! Look at her cheerfully nudging her true love along. The truth is that DaRim and Seon U are such good friends because they are very alike: affectionate and attached to their families, steadfast, loyal and not quick to change emotionally.

I just watched Beautiful Gong Shim. NamgoongMin as the ML does one of those feral wristgrabs to his much younger FL. She struggles, he yanks her closer and glares at her until she relaxes against his grip.
Its another culture and its an art-form, rom-com, with its own stylized moves......... but it still makes me uncomfortable.

The sidling up behind her to 'fix' the poster? That was icky. and yes it was SH in the workplace. But worse it is exactly the same sort of horrific sneaky harassment women face on public transport everyday.

The whole industry/audience in Asia must have their own weird reasons for being so retrograde. may they change, may they change...

I honestly totally agree with you about the whole saving-darim-in the mountain scene, it made me nauseous.

I think that episode went too far, but I will still see this through, there are too many fun moments to miss out.

Tropes are the building blocks of any plot in a fast-moving industry like TV. They can be boring if done badly, if used cynically, or if the rest of the show doesnt give them life. Annoying, spectacularly stupid sometimes, they are still part of the mechanics of writing a show. High art or self-reflective originality, what are you on about buddy?

But it is all about 'execution' -- that is what makes Korean productions so amazing. I wont rant on about that here, there is too much to talk about and love.

But one thing about tropes, they are relaxing, you know how they will go more or less. Cliches are annoying, over-used or poorly used tropes. Not the same thing. Any trope a writer uses has to get something extra written into it to make it come alive again. You have to actually watch the show to see that.

Those who think in a boring manner will be bored, but crucially those who dont take the time to really see and listen to a piece will have no real idea if it is any good or not.
