Just watched ep 5. -Haruto immediately clocking that Ryoma was jealous made me giddy. The issue wasn’t dragged out. -Ryoma-kuuuun biting from the home-made Haruto onigiri after some hesitation was very cute. I love them. -Ryoma was too harsh on Haruto when they were “breaking up”. He could have said it nicer. -Seeing Haruto wear that orange sweater with the middle part got me excited cause the preview from ep 1 where he was crying and, seemingly, pleading is coming up. The preview for ep 6 has me geeked CAUSE IF IT TURNS OUT RYOMA HAS THAT DOG IN HIM AND CAN FIGHT I WILL SCREAM. The duality would be delicious but I don’t have high hopes.
Just finished episode 4. Am I the only one hoping that the "Cyborg" is actually pulling one over on Haruto? She fell too easily for him which I would like to think she's a few steps ahead and knows what he is doing (not that I can blame her). Ryoma-kuuuuunnnn finally realized he's in love through being jealous but the last bit of the preview for episode 5 has me thinking. Are they going to pull that thing where Haruto goes MIA after being told to leave and Ryoma regrets and tries to find him? I don't really like seeing that and it would be more in character of Haruto to stay and pester Ryoma.
Just watched episode 3 and I don't think this series will make me not like it even if there isn't a kiss between them (which I do not think will happen tbh). I really liked how theatrical and simply solved this seemingly hard case was. Ryoma has been having a lot of thoughts of Haruto and who wouldn't? He's so kind and considerate. His reward of wanting a camping trip just so he can confess properly without the succulents hearing was very endearing. Before that Haruto served Ryoma a plate, peeled his shrimp, and when Ryoma burnt his marshmallow, he traded that one with his own. All the little moments are very sweet and they look good next to one another. The preview for episode 4 looks very promising and we might see a jealous Ryoma. I am still hoping a novel spoiler is out there!
The 7.7 rating with only two eps out doesn't make sense; it would make sense if it was at 10 but whatever. I finished watching episode 2 and I haven't watched a bl that made me this excited in a while. Hopefully there is a novel reader for the story out there that will be willing to do a breakdown or even just summarize what occurs in the novel (I welcome spoilers).
After watching episode 1, I'm already thinking this is going to be my favorite bl show/movie. The dynamic hits already and it hasn't even started. In the beginning they give us a peek to what's to come between the two and I can't wait to see more.
I'm slowly catching up on this and just watched episode 5. I haven't read the manga (hope it gets licensed in english) nor have I watched anything from the director and screenwriter, but I can see how much consideration and effort they put into this series. Even the actors have put care into portraying the characters (this applies to most actors in JBL but I had to mention it!). Their little "date" towards the end of episode 5 was so lovely to see. Ishida's hand slowly making its way to Mitsuya's in small incremental movements and the shot of him dragging Mitsuya towards the popcorn stand GAVE ME WARMTH. I am excited to watch the rest.
Also, I love the ending song which I find to be a rarity in most dramas. Usually, their ops and eds are ones I don't care for. The ed of this show is one I don't skip it; it pulls at me the same way as the ending song in another bl Bokura no Micro na Shuumatsu (The End Of The World With You) does and they're both duets.
I haven't read the manga but I guarantee you put two men in a codependent platonic relationship and some readers…
That's fine and I do agree with you! They can view it however they like, but should keep it to themselves if it's going to reduce the story. My issue was with people's just calling this bl when 1. it isn't considered a bl and 2. the mention of romantic feelings is a huge spoiler and takes away from the story. If you look at earlier comments, there have been people that didn't want to watch it because they seen people say it is a bl and then people that wanted to watch it because it is a bl. People reducing, dismissing, and spoiling the story is my issue. I did mention to a prior comment and tagged it as a spoiler but the two aren't even together in the most recent volume when the topic was brought up by one of the characters. This is something I mentioned because it adds on a nuanced complexity to their dynamic that shouldn't be dismissed as a bl/romance.
So going by your comment ,perhaps I should wait for fan subbers for more accurate subtitles
Not quite! I did add a little more to my comment because they were minor inaccuracies which is why I chose that specific example. If I haven't read the manga, I would've just accepted what was given and not been so distracted. Regardless, I still think you should watch with its current subs.
Just a thought since this will get buried under a lot of other posts: since you know the manga and are referencing…
I like that idea! Some shows that I did not enjoy was because of gagaoolala's translation but when I read it on Viki, I ended up loving the show (My Beautiful Man is an example). It's just I am not sure if I will be watching the show consistently because I fall behind on shows often. In those cases, I try to find the time to binge the entire show once it's complete. Keeping track of the minor translation mistakes was not a plan of mine but I will keep it in mind as I watch and take notes. Usually, in shows/movies that I really enjoy, I do post about what was changed or the missing information that could be explained using the manga. This will likely apply to when the series is completed but if there are a lot of notable mistakes, I will be compelled to post the discussion with the translation mistakes along with the adaptation changes.
Just watched eps 1&2 and all I can say is that I am impressed. As to why could be explained that I wasn't expecting much of a show with an explicit manga. I think I've seen it mentioned that the show will be covering up to volume 3 and I wish that the english for it was released now instead of next year. The first two eps covered half of the first volume. One of the reasons why I watch J-dramas/movies is for the manga adaptations just so I can see what they've changed/kept faithful. I knew they couldn't follow through on every part but I was still a little disappointed since the minor changes could have been prevented (they were looking for the necklace in a big bush!). The scene where Chihiro was about to take a picture of Keito when the birds flew around him only for Chihiro to fall into the water fountain and miss the shot is one I would've loved seeing. It makes me think that if this was a movie, they would have had the budget to do so. Gagaoolala does have *minor* inaccuracies in their translations which is common and I did rely on the manga when some parts didn't make sense. One of several examples is in episode 1 when Keito gave Chihiro the camera and C said "Nah, that's trash" (in the manga he said "You mean trash") in which K replied with "That's your friend", it should have been "We're friends, aren't we." Those little mistakes were distracting but again they are minor and shouldn't really alter the dialogue too much.

You commented, I replied, and you commented back with something snarky. It feels like you haven't read any of my comments since I am not "bothered" by this story or bl dramas, but by people's takes on this story. It is on you for lacking comprehension skills. Enjoy your day/evening/morning.

Let me preface by saying that the following reply is not to be taken as an argument but a clarification to the intention of my comment: As a bl consumer, I completely agree with that statement, it is just that I do not believe it is applicable to this story nor do I believe that was the mangaka's intentions to making this story. I did mention that the author did not tag this as a bl or a romance. When it comes to our consumption of media, I do think we should take an author's intentions into consideration when we perceive their stories.
I am not sure if you have read the manga, but it feels like you haven't so I really recommend doing so. The two characters kissing and "confessing" is the biggest spoiler there is. This is why watchers of the show should have not spoiled what was to come. Also, volume 5 recently came out and they are not together at all. Yujin suggested to become lovers and Takara said to him that he was trying to compromise since that isn't how Yujin really feels. Even with this new volume, I still do not see it as a romance/bl.
Was it necessary to make a sequel movie? No. Am I still happy it was made? ABSOLUTELY. I was so excited to find out there is an adaptation to my favorite Ghibli movie. Now, did I enjoy the movie? Not so much the content, more so the the thought of there being a live adaptation for one of my favorite and most rewatched animated films. I didn't have much gripes with the personalities of adult Shizuku and adult Seiji because life happens and that can change people. It was regarding the "problems" they faced in the film and I would have preferred a movie of them living together and getting married like a slice of life of sorts.
I'm very excited for this. I really enjoyed the first two volumes of the manga and still waiting for the third to be out digitally in english. The trailer that's out looked very promising.
"I wish they incorporated the fact that Kyouji lost the karaoke competition and got "Satomi" tatted on him."They…
Thank you. Someone in the comments already informed me in the comments so I was able to see it! I just never removed that bit from my comment until now.
I cannot wait for this! I love the premise and wish the manga was licensed in english. Hopefully this will get one since the mangaka has other works that were licensed.
