This show is TOO MUCH
1. There's a lot of back plot that makes it hard to like the characters. After knowing the mom's history, I genuinely hate the mom's character. Like she's just terrible. I don't like watching stuff where I don't like the characters.2. The show is too long, and a lot of the plot is highly unnecessary. 1.5 hrs and 16 episodes just killed me. I wanted to keep pushing through, but I just knew I could not.
3. The show had too much to say and needed to cut a lot of it out. Though I appreciate the activism in the show, there were too many points they wanted to make all on top of a fantasy plot about a teddy bear coming to life.
4. With Tofu being a teddy bear and all, he did not have to be as young as he was, and it kind of makes it weird. The age gap isn't unbearable when you look at Song's relationship, but because Tofu has that whole "you're my owner/master" it makes it weird. I'm not even one to be mad at age gaps, but that one wasn't necessary. Also, the fact that both of the couples are age gaps makes it weird.
There's more that I just won't get into too, but the show just has so many plot points and it's exhausting. It wasn't necessarily a bad show but when I don't like most of the characters and I feel overwhelmed by the plot, I just don't watch.

If you like this show, you are weird
Yeah it might not be biological incest but this is still incest. And it’s even worse cause the story starts out with him in middle school. He grew up with this guy basically as a father and brother figure and romanticizing this is just gross. Like I can’t see how you can watch him and the younger actor (who has to be less than 13) and start shipping them, even if he later becomes a different actor.I think Taiwan really has to do better with some of the bls they put out. I feel like them more than any country are okay with putting out toxic/weird couples and stories in bls. Incest is not okay and this story is gross.
I came into it skeptical and then they showed they weren’t actually brothers and I allowed myself to relax cause it seems like there was some distance in the relationship, there isn’t. They call themselves family, AND HES A MIDDLE SCHOOLER! That was it for me, cause he’s growing up with this guy, like this guy practically adopted him since he was an elementary school kid. Like that’s weird. That’s like a grown man knowing a girl since she was 9 and dating her once she turns 18, that is absolutely disgusting.

I need my 50 minutes back
This show is just a waste of time. There just wasn't anything substantial or special about the show. I wish I could have spent my 50 minutes watching other things. I kept waiting for the show to be good and for something exciting to happen, but unfortunately, that did not happen and the show was just boring and repetitive. The plot might seem good, and it was a good idea I admit, but it was executed poorly. You don't even get the satisfaction of a bl, because the "couple" is established at the very last second and you don't even see them get together. This is what I didn't like about the Man Who Defies The World of Bl. Would not recommend thisWas this review helpful to you?

It was promising but then kept going downhill
I actually enjoyed the show at the beginning and the pacing. I also liked how I knew right away who were gonna be the couples, especially with Doyoon and Juha.Part of me like the toxicity cause it caused for very thrilling moments but I cannot ignore it.
Every character was gay but had a sense of internalized homophobia. I at least appreciated Juha’s development but Taeyi and Seheon being that way made no sense.
Also, Every relationship had assault and sexual assault and that I can not ignore either. There were so many unsolicited touching and kisses that actually wasn’t okay even if it is in the name of bls. And like I said, I get it with Juha and Doyoon, like that was actually their story, but the instance with Taeyi and Seheon outside of the jazz bar was ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. It was out of character but was looked over once again.
And lastly the conflict of Taeyi’s and Seheon’s older brothers was just poor writing. It was actually so unnecessary and pissed me off. And the fact it was resolved so quickly just proved that it never was needed.
Overall the production of the show was nice and I liked the characters stand alone but the dynamics were f’ed up and the love could have been sweeter and less aggressive.

"Where is the love"
I get why people would rank it high, the show and the characters and the actors were adorable and it was very cute however, in terms of romance the show failed at it.Even though this show had kiss scenes and they are a bl couple, their relationship was dry and they still seemed like they had a bromance. There was some chemistry but it just wasn't romantic. Like the main character was good at showing he liked him, but when they got together, it was dry and they didn't actually seem like they liked each other anymore. I wish this show gave them better moments together that actually gave off the vibe that they really liked each other and wanted to be partners. It definitely didn't give the vibe that they only wanted to see each other. It was still a cute bl nevertheless. And I would recommend it, but it was disappointing.

For those who think this was good... what's wrong with you??
Honestly, this show was really bad. I don't know how I could sit through the entire thing. The characters seemed interesting but were really just boring. Every time I thought something good might happen or the characters would show ANYTHING, they did not. And the acting was kind of bad as well. Like I've seen the main lead in Kieta Hatsukoi and his acting was good, but here... I think perhaps it was because of the script and direction, not him. I don't know who wrote the script, but that needed improvement, it was so terrible. I would not recommend this show, it felt like a waste of time. Was this review helpful to you?

THIS HAS BECOME ONE OF MY FAVES OF ALL TIME!!!
This show was amazing. So entertaining, so romantic, and so well done. I will be doing a full review here and not splitting it up by parts btw.Firstly, I was surprised to watch the whole show and not really see any big kdrama actors. Even the old usual side actors weren’t really present. They utilized a lot of fresh faces (at least to me anyways and I’ve been a kdrama fan for 6 years) and I appreciate that.
Secondly, the characters were amazing. Obviously the ml and fl were great and I really appreciate their performances. I knew Eunjin from Strangers From Hell and I feel like she was able to keep the same freshness and youthfulness to her character. Her performance is also one of my favorite fell characters of all time. The character, Gil Chae, is so inspiring because she has such a great self esteem and at the very core knows what she’s capable of and what she deserves. She also has an entrepreneurial spirit which I feel like is rarely shown in kdramas. She’s a total girl boss.
And Namkoong made me want to watch the show because as an nctzen, I can’t help but be drawn to him, he looks so much like Jaemin lol. Even his portrayal of the character reminded me of Jaemin and every scene Namkoong was in made me feel satisfied. The beginning scene of him on that beach still brings tears to my eyes. I could just see the exhaustion with the fight and life in general on his face and those tears slipping down was amazing.
The side characters killed it aswell. I was surprised to see how much second leads there were. Ryanguem really was so loyal and beautiful and to have a gay second lead was unconventional but I love it. It makes the perfect sense of his character’s actions and the show wasn’t afraid to show a person like him in Joseon Korea as well as not write his actions off as brotherly like most show wills do. Chungah I know from watching Heart Pairing this year but had never really seen her before. I really liked her performance as well but I still don’t understand why she was chasing down captives. She was a bit of a weird character. Yeongjun was annoying but surprisingly I cried for him on the last ep so I guess he wasn’t all that bad. He’s just one of those overly honorable characters that has no room for gray area which bores me. Eun Ae was sweet but I didn’t like how she kept downplaying Gil Chae’s feelings for Yeongjun as if that’s not her best friend smh. Will forever be a fan of Gu Jam cause he has a lot of aura and is so cute. Big Hyungnim was a cute character as well.
The progression of the show was pretty good to me but I did feel like the dialogue was kinda weird at point. Like when Jang Hyeon comes back and Gil Chae is getting married. I feel like neither of them actually expressed their feelings toward each other. And I watched all 21 episodes and I don’t recall ever seeing or hearing a “saranghe” from either of the characters. Also to use the memory loss trope 2x in one drama is kind of lazy but I’ll take it. I also felt rather let down with Janghyeon’s past and expected something more exciting.
The show is long but genuinely I watched every episode with eagerness and never ONCE got bored of it. I enjoyed the themes of chastity and nationalism. I also enjoyed the soundtrack. I do like the ost in Ryanguem’s voice the most cause it brings me to tears.
This show is a 10/10 and I’ll recommend it to everyone

The end ruined the show
This show was pretty funny and I liked the plot and the characters, but the execution was kinda bad. The final relationship was weird and forced. The love interest came out of nowhere. Their love really should have started in like the second episode or at least introduced the interest, instead the show rushed everything to the last episode, making it seem out of character for the main. Even when he was confessing, it seemed he was unwillingly compelled to. The show spent too much time showing us how much he was against bl, it was unnecessary, though funny at points. Also, I felt like I would have liked it better if the love interest was a cuter, shorter guy or tall, masculine guy and naturally made his heart flutter. They looked bad together tbh. Also if the main fell for the guy first instead of the other way around it would have been better, it took away from the romance and only made it seem like the main liked the interest because he liked him first. There was no chemistry between them, which sucks. The main had more chemistry with the guy he met at the karaoke bar. I wish that guy had come back :/ I wouldn't recommend the show, a bit of a waste of time. It was good up until the end though.

BFFR
Are you for real?! I started watching this show and I thought it was GREAT! I really did. Every episode made me happy and I genuinely shipped the couple, but here come the last 2 episodes.THEY COMPLETELY RUINED THIS SHOW
Like I'm so upset because it was so good but they just completely messed it up and now I feel bad about ever starting the show, smh.
Like please don't even start this because you will get attached and then feel like you need to fight the story writer. I don't want to spoil so if you watch, good luck. And those who think this show is still good... be for real.

A PERFECT Japanese bl
This show was just so well done. It had the perfect length as well as progression/development between the couple. Not to mention the two leads had such strong chemistry. The scene where they’re rolling on the floor was sooo good it literally melted my heart! ALSOOOOO I was surprised but the communication between the two leads is really good. I HATE miscommunication but they communicate so well and just suit each other which I love. It’s not a crazy exciting plot but more so a normal slice of life but it’s done so well.
I personally liked all of the characters as well.
and I’m just glad I found this show. Definitely one of my favorite Japanese bls. Highky recommend
