Title It's Okay to Not Be Okay
Okay, I'm going to voice out an issue I had while watching IOTNBO. The show never expands on MY and her supposed…
Agree. I don't understand the allure of her character by most people. First of all, she is so messed up as a person because of her equally messed up parents, and her manipulative personality makes her even more dangerous. In my opinion, Gang Tae and Moon Young would have been an utter disaster if their relationship occurred in real life. Both have emotional baggage, both have psychological traumas, both have insecure attachment styles. Their relationship would be so toxic they would end up destroying each other. So conveying the message that romance can heal two emotionally and psychologically damaged people is absolute nonsense. I took up Abnormal Psychology as part of my Clinical Psychology course in postgrad school prior, and aside from the fact that I am doubtful that she truly has Antisocial Personality Disorder (Moon Young apologizing to Sang Tae for what her mother did to theirs was already a clue since ASPD's are incapable of feeling any guilt at all), I prefer they undergo therapy and counseling separately as individuals, contrary to what Show tells us that romantic love is the answer. And that is, if Moon Young is genuinely a psychopath. From what I know, clinical intervention for Antisocial Personality Disorder is pretty much hopeless due to its nature. These people possess no empathy nor remorse and they are masters at deception and manipulation. In reality, no drug or therapy has proven to be effective in treating it. True, Seo Yi Ji's performance is noteworthy. Show has made an attempt to humanize this dangerous and destructive personality disorder. But hopefully, with sufficient research (DSM-5 would be a good place to start), people will realize that her character here is definitely not someone to be admired or looked up to.
