This was a totally gripping mystery drama. In these days of multiple plot, it was rather refreshing to see a drama that had only one. I do like the multiple plots. But as they say, a change is as good as a rest 8/10.
Another title is Iron man. But for me, if you wanted to compare the male character to a hero from Marvel , it would be the incredible hulk. Instead of turning green, he grows blades. I thought the acting was excellent overall. I'm not counting the game team, as they were just eye candy. Well, if they can act, they didn't get much of a chance to show it here. I thought the drama had some powerful scenes with the second female lead. But her pain spells are more or less forgotten after a while. The villain ie the one who indirectly caused the second female lead's condition doesn't get punished, I'm not quiet sure what the point of the fainting spells was. As far as I remember, she fainted once or twice. It looks like it's going to a big issue. But it's never really pursued. We hear, that she gets fainting spells. But I don't recall seeing her get any before. So the story is I guess this young woman , who blames herself for what she sees as a misdeed, and tries atone for it by helping others become better. But I see this as quite overbearing at times. The story was fine, although you could see where it was going. But for me, it was the acting that made this drama work. Oh, it has some nice locations as well, 8/10
Terrific drama, and i will look it as a drama and not as a piece of history. The acting from the japanese cast is fine throughout. As mentioned elsewhere, it does more or less portray the japanese in a positive light, with some exceptions. The Americans are portrayed in a negative light, again with some exceptions. The story of the 442nd unit was new to me. I have been googling about the period too. The two things that stuck out for me (1) The 442nd were not allowed to fight in the pacific, but america had no problems letting german-americans, and italian-americans fight on the european front. (2) in scenes where japanese have to speak, they speak it with heavy japanese accents, In actual fact, they sounded more like this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=001VYmrrHL8 this is an old hollywood movie called go for broke. The lead is played by a hollywood actor, but many of the cast were veterans of the 442nd, and they don't sound at all, as if they had difficulty speaking english. 10/10
just watched this on netflix. I don't think a movie has ever had me so confused about it's qualities; intriguing at first. obviously something was going on, but what. The worker's questioning concerning the brothers was brilliantly referred to later on. the first let down was the wrong leg limp. Then there was the taxi mistake. The second one wasn't needed. as the pen nib was enough. Then there were the cliches of the phone going off, or somebody being called, or told to look somewhere place, so our nominal hero won't be discovered. There was also the mother talking on the phone, and saying more than she needed to. QUESTION; Why didn't the mobther lock the window? But then there came the big reveal. which had me stunned. later, another big reveal made me question how realistic it was. But I went with it. After that the movie had me changing my mind at almost every turn. My imdb rating veered between 10/9/8/7/6. i settled on 8. Don't ask me.why; The acting and direction is fine
i loved it] i don't believe it's totally unscripted though; my favourite was Niki. I enjoy the panels comments, although I did wonder why the young guy was there. One of the other panelists is Yu, or is it You; she was excellent in the movie Nobody knows. 10/10 Note; Among other things I'm watching the original series now; So far, yu/You is the only one commenting;
I appreciate that it's different/unexpected for Pil Joo and Mo Hyun to not necessarily be together at the end.…
Been reading the discussion between you and Arvis. i'm on your side when it comes to the ending. for me, they might or might not end up together. I have seen some dramas, in which the ending made me wonder, what the hell is going on. Those i would have a problem with. As for the lady going mad, when she found out who pill joo really was. Well, for me she was always a nut case, to put it crudely. it's just that the revelation drove her completly over the edge.
Lee Hang Na's character was supposed to be "comic relief". Maybe older Koreans would have found her funny? Also,…
I Don't know if i ever found the comic relief in serious K-Dramas to be all that funny. But i did want to investigate that actress further, in terms of her acting ability. I watched her a drama special on youtube, and saw that she was a very good actress.
Excellent drama with top performances from Jang Hyuk Park Se-Young, and Jang Seung-Jo. At first i thought she was just just okay, but once she started showing some steel, for me her acting got way better. I was reminded of Edward Norton in Primal Fear, in the way performance changed. It took me a recognise how good Jang Seung-Jo was. I think it was his laughing put me off. It didn’t convince me; But when that calmed down, i began to recognise how talented he is.The other performance that stoood out for me was Joe Byeong-Gyu as the younger version of the character played by Jang Hyuk. Overall, the acting ranged from okay to pretty good. Perhaps Im Do-Gyoo was a bit weak. Then there was (for me) the slightly odd performance of Lee Hang-Na (at least that’s who i think it was . It was the lady playing Lee Soon-Jae’s companion, wife, or whatever she was. Her character seemed out of place in the drama. But i’m not saying that’s a bad thing. The best way i can put is. she is a vegetable in a tin of mixed fruit. i couldn’t make out if her performance was good or bad. i’ll have to investigate her in something else, my favourite part of the drama were the cat and mouse encounters between Jang Hyuk and Lee Soon-Jae. Even though the latter was a descipable villain, I couldn’t help but laugh, when he got the upper hand The discrepancy in the shooting scene as depicted in two different episodes was badly done. Another thing i had a problem with was Jang Hyuk’s character’s treatment of the character played by Han So-Hee. He threatens her by almost choking her. He gives her bribery money. He saves her life, and indicates that she can tell tales if she wants to. How far was he prepared to go, when he was choking her. Did he just think, that if he showed what he was capable of, that she would take fright and run. But he never would have killed her. i guess the choking scene was to show how far the main character was willing to go to get his revenge. But when he saves her, or even more, when he says, she can do what she wants, it negates the ruthless characteristics, we are supposed to believe he has.
m/title/tt1496702/ Very enjoyable/. I had never heard of Darna before watching this series. The cast were pretty good with a lovely performance from Marian Riveria as Darna. Ding was a great mixture of obnoxius and cute.. Francesca was proably my favourite human character. Funny as hell. All the villians were good, and it seemed many if not all were bad because of bad things that happened to them. Although you could say it was their choice to go down the evil path. Darna is sexy, but also quite ruthless when it comes to dealing with her adverseries.. One of them she dispatches from behind. Although she was saving her boyfriend at the time. But she is ready to forgive too. The baddies are for the most part female, and i will pick out two favs it would be falcon lady and the alien queen. Mother love is a big theme in this series, whether it be a mother rejecting her child, a mother searching for her child, a mother obsessively loving another woman's child. The series can have you crying and then switch to a comic scene, in which you are still crying, but beginning to laugh.. I found Eduardo a little bit too clingy. Dr Morgan had one of the worst wigs i have ever seen Fr mateo was a bit of a busybody. The snake legion were a bit of a disappointment really.. The fight sequences were nothing to make you go wow. Ding and Narda/Darna's relationship was very well done. So if you want a series which includes among other things silly comedy/tragedy/okay action scenes/vampires/snake people and aliens/, On the special effects. Well, we'll skip over that. you might enjoy this. 8/10
Check him out in Cruel City. I think he's a good actor!
Sorry. I gave cruel city 10/10 I looked up my review of it. This is all I had to say about that actor "Weak performances? Well maybe Yoon Hyun-Min. " It doesn't mean I'm right. Ayway I say "maybe" Sometimes I find performances hard to gauge.
8/10 Very well acted. Shin Da Eun is a delight. Although I question why someone as ditsy as her could be a doctor. Although when you find out who her grandather, maybe that had something to do with it. But she has the best scene in the series when she takes charge with Park Chul Min. The kissing scenes are quite good. Another standout scene for me is when the leading lady breaks down when she finds that she hasn't got aids The patients story are all interesting. You might question why Jo Jae Hyun always (or a lot of times) has to save the day. Okay he is the best, but it can get a bit wearisome. The medical scenes are this layperson's eyes quite impressive. I find it a little bit annoying when Ji Sung took so long to move when he was told to get out of the operating theatre.
Shin Da Eun is my favourite actress. I was very disappointed that the last drama she played the lead in.The return of Hang Geom Bok was never subbed. I have a feeling this will go the same way. As was pointed out to me, she does have a tendency to appear in long dramas. Maybe subbers no longer do long dramas. But It's nice to see that she is finally getting lead roles.
these dramas usually have fine performances. and this one is no exception. Nice to see Shin Da Eun as the lead female, even if the drama really centres on the two guys. The mystery story is intriguing, but the red herring shouldn't fool you. Although it can be billed as a mystery, it's really the relatiuonship between the two guys that is at the heart of the drama. 8/10
If confict is the essence of drama, then this drama has essence coming out of it's ears. I don't think I have ever seen a drama with so much verbal antagonism as this one. That's not a critiscism just an observation. Anyway first thing to mention is the replacement of the lead actress. I have to say I found the original actress a little bit bland. But who knows, I might have changed my mind as the show went on, if she had stayed in it. (I guess I'll have check out something she got through all of. When Jang Hee Jin too over the role, I thought she was all wrong. It took me a while to realise how good an actress she was. I can't fault the acting in this show, or the writing. Even in the last episode or two, where it gets a bit gooey at times. the writer(s) still manage to pull the rug out from under your feet. But there is one major weakness, and it revolves around a major plot point. SPOILER.
It concerns the lucky accident of a guy being at the bottom of the cliff at the right time. Then there is another thing that bothered me. But it could just be that I didn't get it. It's when kang tae oh is hit by those boxes. I just couldn't understand why the boxes would nearly kill him. At times I was wondering if I was wondering if I was watching a drama or some kind of black comedy. The arguments get so excessive, that you just can't help laughing. Then there are the taking off the coat scenes. Surely we were meant to laugh at them. The drama has at least one scene of physicial affection between Kang Nam Gil, and Jung Gyu Woon. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I can't recall seing scenes like that in other dramas ie between two men. I'm thinking of the scene on the park bench (i think) where one holds the other or something like that. Of course the best thing for me about the show is that Shin Da Eun is in it.
UPDATE. I see this is a Makjang. This is a new word to new . So I guess I was meant to laugh.
UPDATE 2. The original actress was the lead in Boys over flowers, and I praised her performance in that. 8/10
