Also can anyone recommend a show as fun as this one? Please do not say stuff like squid gogo. I’ve already watched…
Hi! Only 5 eps into this one at the moment and loving it, but some shows I didn't see on your list that I found really compelling, uplifting, sweet, and straightforward:
- Heesu in Class 2: another show that had me smiling front to back. Cho Jun Young (Red Finger) is one of the leads. It's about high schoolers, but also they spend time with Heesu's sisters, who are in their late 20s/early 30s. It's a bit different from the webcomic of Heesu in Class 2, and so the MDL ratings are maybe from people who were hoping for a 100% faithful adaptation (In my opinion, the show gives Heesu more character development beyond his romantic situations).
A couple of uplifting ones w/ the leads as younger people overcoming obstacles (and music if you liked Twinkling Watermelon!): - Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born: Kim Taeri is the lead, and she's brilliant. The historical aspect of this is super interesting. My favorite show of 2024. - Castaway Diva has some very tough moments, but it is mostly very sweet. It's hard to go wrong with anything Park Eun Bin does.
Loved this show so much! Thank you to Park Joon Soo for directing yet another ridiculous comedy. Also very impressed that this was Lee Da Eun's first drama--she's a natural! Consistently hilarious.
FL’s dad actually is nice and did not do anything wrong. She just hates him for a reason that was not his fault…
Yes, FL's dad is nice, but he continually hangs around ML's mom and the rest of the villagers that were racist bullies toward his daughter. It is not clear that he ever seriously stood up for Kang Hee to them. It probably hurts Kang Hee to see dad with her bullies at all, never mind allowing them into her home. :(
Dong Yeon, thank you for representing the People Who Did Most of the Work in School Group Projects community. If you need an American friend, hit me up, I'm always down to research options and write checklists
Yes. Romantic relationships are never *directly* stated, but they are super obvious based on dynamics, characters' presentations, zero or near-zero female characters in the theater troupe have/even mention romantic relationships with men, and what the obvious romantic pairs say to each other.
Physical affection is limited to actions during the stage productions, and when off-stage, things like extended hand-holding with gazing into each others' eyes, lingering hugs, brushing hair out of faces, etc.
I heard the webtoon that inspired this show doesn't hide the queerness at all. Also heard conservative censorship required the show to remove the webtoon's unambiguous references. Anyway despite the forced indirect sapphic-ness, truly one of the gayest shows I have watched in my entire life. Loved this show.
