So if the king doesn’t assign a crown prince before his death nor abdicates the throne to one of his sons/grandsons, the royal elder (Queen dowager) will assign the new king and she isn’t really the one who chooses she just gives approval so that the new king is recognized by everyone (like giving her blessing). Or can be by other ways like the ministers pressuring the royal family to pick a certain heir (due to his accomplishments) or by the heir himself revolting. And the criteria for becoming king isn’t easy especially when there are many sons (many heirs). On the birth list we have children born from the Queen first as they are the “legitimate” sons followed by consorts and finally concubines. Each of these 3 categories are divided by age so the Queen’s eldest son is usually labeled “heir apparent” even if the king didn’t assign him or anything. Of course, accomplishments may outweigh brith order or legitimacy but it depends on the situation. There are also many other ways like the ministers assigning reagents along with the Queen dowager if the king is too young.

So if a concubine’s son is older than the queen’s son (in this case it’s crown princess’s son), it doesn’t really make a different because in the end a concubine’s son is considered illegitimate and the Queen’s son is heir. Still, this doesn’t mean the concubine’s son can never become a king. There are many cases where a concubine’s son becomes king by his accomplishments or revolting or if the king chooses him specifically or he is the only surviving son etc.

Ok I agree with you but I don’t want Kang San to end up living a with Dan Oh as normal ppl… I want him to get the title grand prince and marry Dan Oh as grand princess consort and then they can leave and do whatever they want. Plz give us a proper ending, not just them holding hands and kissing at the end please 😭😭😭 ok ofc we want happy ending but proper happy ending and NOT an open happy ending T-T

Ok after watching ep 13 I honestly do not think Yu Ha is annoying or dumb anymore… he’s actually rational tbh. What, your country is in crisis and the people are suffering tyranny and injustice, and here you are, the cp’s son, someone who can have authority and power which can save them; your older brother never showed up or did anything, will you seriously sit and be like I’m illegitimate I can’t and won’t do anything? The fact that he is a direct royal member puts him in a responsible position and given his character, he cannot bear seeing his people and friends suffer from his crazy uncle. He himself had a picture in my mind about how he wants Joseon to be, and rn no one wants to take the role of saving people so why is it wrong for him to take it?
Ik Yu Ha is illegitimate but there are many instances where an illegitimate son is crowned king. And, Lee Seol is first in line which makes Yu Ha second in line so if Lee Seol never shows up it makes sense for him to do that…
And it also gives an opportunity for both brothers because no one really knows of the existence of Lee Gyeom so the king and inspector Jang will at some point get really confused about who is who but ig they will only discover Lee Gyeom at the very end.

Also very glad he is still righteous and won’t choose fighting his own brother for the throne; gave him his personal heirloom when Kang San could've walked off with it and Yu Ha won’t really have anything left for himself which shows how much of a righteous patriot he is. Anddddd glad there are no love triangles I’m so happy Yu Ha just gave up without making drama cuz he has his goal set in front of his eyes and he knows there are some things he can never get.
Looking forward to some YuxSan colabs in the future and as they both said, both of them need to work in hand to get rid of their uncle.

I get Yu Ha’s mother’s love and worry for her son, but her method is like making a new Lee Chang. Lee Chang is crazy because he is supper conscious about the fact that he killed his brothers for the throne, and that the throne doesn’t belong to him. If Yu Ha were ever to sit on the throne using her methods, he won’t end up any different from Lee Chang because all this is based on jealousy and the feeling of inferiority. Very glad Yu Ha is focused on his goal and didn’t follow his mother and the minister.

Hopefully… I hope he stays aware of what his initial goal was…

Ok I’m guessing at some point both Yu Ha and Kang San will be in danger together, in which one will protect the other and then maybe open up to each other at some point (?) I kind of see it coming from ep 13 trailer idk lol. Also, Kang San isn’t the type to fight his own brother for the throne ig he was too shock at the end of ep 12. Same can be said for Yu Ha he was too shock to discover it was San all along. Yu Ha as well said it before, he won’t be like his crazy uncle king killing his own brother for the throne but ig his jealousy began to evolve after his mother and the left state councilor idk who filled his mind with bs regarding Lee Seol.

Well it’s kind of hard to say as if we look at real history, the candidacy for being queen is very strict and has many requirements one of which both parents have to be alive and healthy. Also there is a tight age range for the potential queens. However she has the base which is being a noble and also he’s in love with her; and given drama wise, I think the script may allow her to be queen if Kang San ever ended up king. I suppose, given Kang San’s personality, he won’t allow himself to have another queen besides Dan Oh and I believe he will fight her way to the queen throne if he ever needed to. So I say, if Kang San ever ended up on throne, Dan Oh will for sure be his queen 💯.

Being a crown princess isn’t realistic cuz if Kang San revolted he will sit the throne right away.
I really want an ending where the brothers are on good terms and Yu Ha becomes king while Kang San is a grand prince ans Dan Oh is grand princess consort I’ll be over the moon 😭

Yeah I agree with you on Yu Ha but Yuk Ho is reasonable tbh. No one would want the people they love and care about to be caught up in the intense palace drama. I won’t even say palace drama cuz it’s a nation crisis. She’s already tangled up by being called to the palace several times when she doesn’t even know if she will step out of the palace alive or not… the crazy king literally creeps me out whenever he says or does anything. Even the way he stares lol.

Guys I’m mad it Yoo Ha it feels like he’s stealing Kang San’s identity in every way! It’s not a feeling; it’s real! In ep 12 preview he meets the queen mother as Lee Seol which is identity robbing like please :(
In ep 11 when Kang San saw his grandmother he must’ve felt like the distance between them is too big although they were standing right next to each other. Ik that Yoo Ha has his circumstances and many won’t accept a “love child” on the throne but still… it’s very cheap of him tbh. When he revealed himself as Lee Seol to Mokinhoe I could bear it but meeting the grandmother and going all as Lee Seol is just no. I wish they made it differently. Or like I hope the eunuch tells the grandmother that the real Lee Seol is not him. Orrrr…. maybe she knows Lee Seol has a red birth mark but doesn’t find it so she knows it’s not him at some point.

I thought only certain typical “female” characters would resort to full on identity robbing but here we are oh well.
Like I wanted an ending where Yoo Ha sits the throne and Kang San ends up with Dan Oh as a full fledged prince!! Then our Dan Oh is princess consort that would be so damn hot and cute but the stuff going on right now doesn’t point to it.

Now I’m sure there will be some kind of “fight” between Kang San and Yoo Ha over Dan Oh, and also certainly on the whole “I’m Lee Seol” story that Yoo Ha created. It does actually open an opportunity for Kang San to do stuff without anyone noticing because the king and the others think Lee Seol is someone else, but stilllll !!!!

Well you can’t really say queen because at that time he was born to the crown prince (future king) and crown princess (future queen) so technically his mother wasn’t a queen but a queen-to-be. They refer to him as the crown prince’s “heir” as he was born by the “main wife” aka crown princess so supposedly he is the main inheritor of the crown prince, he takes the title and basically everything else unless the cp has a will otherwise.

True at the beginning when I saw the poster of the drama and read the name I was like meh. Even after the first few episodes aired I wasn’t interested but then I read the synopsis carefully and decided to give it a try. Generally I really like historical hidden identity dramas and this one is just my perfect cup of tea 💯

True but I believe he wasn’t the watchman that time as the age frame doesn’t match and he was too young when the watchman killed her fiancée so it can’t be him

Yup he is; the “hidden love child” of the late crown prince aka Kang San’s father. A certain kiseng was his lover (I think the head kiseng) and they had a child together who is Yu Ha.

It’s good his character didn’t flop. It would’ve been less exciting if they made the 3rd ml to be just a fun carefree character. This way, he has a real story. Also, he seems to separate his private life from being a watchman which is good since we can see him smile and have real fun with Hong Ju

Yesss my theory too is that the king’s bodyguard is the watchman who saved him when he was young and killed Hong Ju’s fiancé.

I hope it wasn’t him. I think the age frame doesn’t match here, since he’s around Kang San’s age, there’s no way it was Shi Yeol that day given the height and skills of the watchman. I’m guessing it’s another watchman maybe the king’s bodyguard he looked sus when Inspector Jang talked to the king about Lee Seol and the watchman.

Still, Shi Yeol seems to know about her fiancé’s death. How? He shadows Lee Seol even when they were both young, preparing to be his future watchman. That’s also how he knows Bok Sil’s name (Dan Oh’s dog) which supposedly, only Lee Seol was there. So technically he must’ve been shadowing Lee Seol ever since the rebellion day, to this day. Also in the first ep he randomly came out of nowhere to join the inn which is proof he is shadowing Kang San.
