I’m sure a lot of u out there would have different opinions on this version of CM, if the Japanese one didn’t…
it's both actually. i don't know if you have read the manga, but if you have it's a lot clear. the director has literally planned this since the jdrama ended it's not like they suddenly got interested in the manga itself. i'm not trying to make it seem as if the jdrama was the original (im a big fan of the manga so i dont really like when people do that), but in the case of cmth in comparison of let's say, the anime, it's definitely more inspired by the jdrama. toyokawa is a stationery company only in the jdrama, adachi's life before the magic is shown only in the jdrama, pai's whole "get achi to pretend to be your boyfriend" is from the jdrama, achi only finds out pai is a fujoshi and doesn't actually like him in the jdrama , the 7 years crush is from the jdrama etc. even something as small as the part where achi gets hit by the elevator doors is taken from the jdrama lol... there's a lot of moments like that
it's a great and fun little show. i think it deserves the 8.1 rating as a stand-alone bc it's enjoyable for the most part. i think you should watch it, especially if you've never seen any other version of cherry magic. but as an adaptation it leaves a lot to be desired. i will say i was sceptical of the casting at first because im not really into the 'reusing ships' model gmm uses. but the trailer came out and the cast/director implied that the story goes beyond the jdrama's plot and that gave me high hopes, especially considering its long runtime. i know dramas tend to (or even have to) follow a specific formula but i think the show would have been way better if it strived for the pace of the manga rather than sticking to the standard "getting together halfway through". they claim to be more loyal to the manga but i still see the jdrama's influence mostly. honestly it's not even that bad at adaptating key moments, they generally get the emotional beats right and the crucial scenes are well done but some of the original plots they write mess with the story in a way that's probably mostly annoying to fans of the og story. it's the little moments that feel ooc or too cartoonish that mess with me really. like people moved on from episode 8 being a filler but im still genuinely so upset at all that time wasted that could've been used to catch up with events(or at least not be that much of an ooc shitshow) but i will admit i might be a bit harsher with my criticism of this version but that's mostly because i had high expectations of its budget and duration and the fact they had twice the source material to work with. i know the series was originally going to be inspired solely by the jdrama and because the entire copyright process got delayed they were able to follow the rest of the volumes as well but i had really hoped this version would've focused on the later parts of cherry magic, which i find just as important. my opinion is also muddied by the anime that, also has its flaws, but at least is taking the approach to the pace that i was expecting from this show...
please don't reply with any snarky comments about dropping it because 1) it's cherry magic i will watch and read anything related to it 2) i'm actually invested 3) there are still a lot of parts of it that i enjoy and look forward to (mainly jinmin) nor the usual "stop commenting if you don't have anything nice to say" (i insist it's not like im straight up hating but i know how i come across) again, this is a comment section, not a compliment section. and yes i end up commenting here every other every week, wait till you hear how many weeks i've been into cherry magic lol.
you can blame my indifference to the show to my high expectations but before you jump me just remember when you were let down by an adaptation before...
to people who watched the J version, What was Karan's reaction when Achi told him about the magic power? just…
in the jdrama adachi is quite upset about his powers and when he confesses about them hes very emotional and says hes insecure about their relationship not working out so kurosawa gives him a way out and asks him if he wants to break up (so adachi wont have to worry; he wasn't bothered by the powers like other people are saying)
the manga goes a bit more like this one, with kurosawa getting jealous of seeing adachi/tsuge telepathy talk (think of the scene that happened in ep5ish in the company with achi and jinta and karan interrupted them) and adachi confessing as an explaination
i really liked achi's and jinta's banter in the dinner scene and the karanachi moment that followed! jintamin…
generally i really liked this episode after how much i was disappointed in the last one (which i will now pretend doesnt exist). i wonder if we can get the parents storyline by episode 11? i really hope they keep achi's family story from the manga bc jp movie gave him both his parents but canon (ad)achi is a child of divorce and that's important to his character!!!
i really liked achi's and jinta's banter in the dinner scene and the karanachi moment that followed! jintamin confession was also adorable (jinta is the guy from the meme that's like "when i leaned in to kiss him and he threw his hands in the air and said "yay!") karan was way too corny for my liking at times but it did add up to some cute scenes. pai/rock still not doing anything for me but pai is hilarious(they should seriously plot twist this into an unrequited love). why did they make achi's transfer so short though? one month is barely enough to help with a new store and it doesn't make sense to be as big of a conflict if hes just gone for 30 days. originally hes gone for almost a year which is why hes so reluctant.... and also kudos for making achi initiate the kiss!!! my gripe with both this and the jp drama is that they totally skipped achi intiating their first hand holding but at least they both made it up to me by making him initiate the kiss. hes just as horny!! just in more denial!!
omg how insecure in your opinions do you have to be to see your ship finally kiss and your first thought being…
omg not you again yes totally im here because i hate taynew i hate their fans im watching this show with a bias. actually as a cherry magic fan i should shut up and not watch this show because it only belongs to taynew and their fans i cant have thoughts on it that arent positive even though i have complimented the show quite a few times (mostly for side characters though so it doesnt count because im not kissing the ground taynew walk on) how many times are we going to go through this.
CM japenese version would never. Where are the haters now huh? Rating this one low because you are salty about…
omg how insecure in your opinions do you have to be to see your ship finally kiss and your first thought being "the haters" that mind you a lot of the time have valid critics? this version wouldnt exist if the japanese one wasnt popular enough to help the manga continue and have enough plot for this version... not to mention it wouldnt be popular enough to get picked up.
i cant get over kiku's and izumi's actors both playing Pin in kimi ni todoke (2023) and kimi ni todoke (2010) respectively. it's the only thing on my mind whenever they're onscreen together
That's your own opinion. Why don't you write and direct your movie if you ain't pleased with this.Drop the series…
1. I'm not saying they're running out of time. Though reaching volume 12 like they mentioned seems unlikely (it's also not a very fitting volume to end on imo). I've also mention before that they have too much time and that they're not utilising it well. Proof: this episode's rushed plot. There's the job transfer drama anyway in the next episode did this subplot really need to exist? Would it really cost them that much to have a more wholesome filler? 2. I also would love a faster pace. It would make it a lot more bearable actually. Well my major suspicions (besides the fact that obviously it's the drama's success that made them want the rights to the manga especially since toyota revealed the negotiations started around 2021) is the way it begun (only the jdrama began with adachi before the magic) i think the company name is also taken from the jdrama? And less significant scenes like the "pai should ask achi to pretend to be her boyfriend" or pai and achi walking together when they were attacked etc. were also pulled from the jdrama. It's not a lot but it's obvious to me there's influence from both manga and jdrama 3. The manga is short with short chapter so I don't blame them for original plots and scenes (I'm not THAT nitpicky). It's a bad filler episode and because last episode wasn't all that great either it's not making me very hopeful for the next ones. Again, I don't understand why they'd add the brand new drama in this episode as if the next one isn't just as dramatic. 4. This is very opinion based as you said so I'm not going to reply further. 5. I actually agree that Jintamin are way more enjoyable to watch here! As for rock/pai I acknowledge it's fanservice and think it's lame
That's your own opinion. Why don't you write and direct your movie if you ain't pleased with this.Drop the series…
youre so right i totally sound soooooo goofy rn because both comments have proven all of my points wrong with well constructed arguements and clear reasoning. oh wait
That's your own opinion. Why don't you write and direct your movie if you ain't pleased with this.Drop the series…
very mature reaction to criticism btw. i really like the source material so im watching an adaptation of it. adaptations have the responsibility to be somewhat faithful and not taint the reputation of its source material and this show is failing at it ❤️ it's called a comment section, not a compliment section. i can COMMENT on what i WATCH
it's been a while since i've seen a manga adaptation fuck up this bad when they literally have the runtime to comfortably adapt everything. if this was a movie or a 20 minute episode show that could only show a fraction of a 12 volume manga i would be more lenient but this is a 12 episode show with 40 minute episodes.
it's clear the thai adaptation is trying to recreate the japanese drama's success; a lot of plot points are borrowed from it besides the manga and i really don't want anyone who hasn't seen both to argue with me or refuse to acknowledge that this adaptation isn't just of the manga but also a lowkey remake of the og drama. which is why it tried to copy its pace in the first half even though it wouldve made sense to have a faster pace like ie the anime.
cherry magic has so a lot going beyond the parts that got adapted by the jp drama. so i don't get why instead of following the manga they decided to make a stupid plot about a company dating ban, with a stupid reason behind it, and find a stupid way to combat it while also milking the sexual harassment situation and make the power harassment seem as not a big deal.
not only that but achi's passiveness in this episode was aggravating at best. there's no way someone would see their boyfriend working themselves to the bone and only do what achi did... the boss as well. cmth wanted to contrast cm by having an overly positive work environment with the "work squad" and whatever and then decided that the boss was an asshole like 8 episodes in. it's not even a "twist" it's plain bad writing.
jinta and min are cute but theyre also in no way tsuge and minato. and pai and rock being a thing should've been my red flag to how bad this show would get.
I'm a diehard fan of the Japanese CM and I'm confused by what you've said. If anything, I thought the Jp version…
going back to the woman who harrassed him just show us how much hes willing to "sacrifice" to save his relationship with achi is distasteful at best. and definitely way out of character for both him and also for achi to be that calm about it. they added drama just to add drama and did it in the worst way possible. sure the jp one also didn't make a big deal out of it as it focused on the part of kurosawa's hard work not being appreciated rather than the fact he almost got assaulted but at least the original didn't try to milk it...
this episode was nonsensical, an insult to the original cherry magic story and characters and minimised the sexual harassment kurosawa/karan faced in the worst possible way. i am absolutely disgusted and i know no one will talk about this because every criticism of cmth is "from bitter fans of the jp one" and therefore not valid
Lol while most fans keep complaining that the episodes feel too short since they want more, you feel the episodes…
that's not exactly opposite to what im saying. bad pace can make the show feel 'too short' because it's dragging unnecessary plot points and it feels like nothing significant is happening.
i remember the cmjp screenwriter (erika yoshida i owe you my life) saying she took into account how some actions…
ok i see someone has already misconstrued what i meant so let me make it clear: the helicopter scene is not the problem. funnier in the manga, too much for live action sure. but still pretty funny. i'm talking about cmth's OWN decisions and alterations that made no sense (to me) and completely missed the original point of the Failed First Date. The qr codes, the 5am, the introducing him immediately to a friend when he knows achi is very socially awkward, the necklace with the 'meaningful symbols' etc. were all very flat out cringe. Do you know how bad you've fucked up for ME to call anything related to Cherry Magic cringe?
