everyone should watch this.
I may have come out of this drama appreciating my parents far more than I did before watching it. There was not a single episode where I didn’t cry.
What stayed with me the most was the generational shift between the mothers and daughters. A mother who refused to let her daughter join the sea because she didn’t want her to suffer the same hardships, only for that daughter to later refuse to keep her own daughter confined to the kitchen and instead help her fly towards a completely different life. That progression hit me deeply.
And I’ll be honest that there were moments where I found Geum Myeong frustrating, especially during the arguments with Ae-Sun (her mother). But then it hit me: “Oh… I’m just like her.” That realization humbled me so fast. It made me rethink all the moments where I may have unintentionally hurt my parents without ever stopping to understand the weight they carried to become the people they are today.
