what do you mean dull and monotonous, every 10 minutes there was a fight scene or some character plotting to beat…
Yeah... Firstly I wanna say I totally agree on the genre changes part. Unironically, I've seen people complaining that the main character didn't have gray hair... like it honestly baffles me. They definitely did a solid job on that end, with the *majority* of it feeling realistic unlike the webtoon where characters are strong for the sake of the story needing them to be strong. If season 2 is made it'll definitely have that issue. I could rant for ages, but essentially if you haven't read the webtoon then know that characters in it (other than the main character) generally are all street fighters who have not trained in any martial art, and for some characters have not even fought or trained previously so the sense of realism is completely taken away. In the show we saw that the strongest in the show was a former MMA fighter who kept up with his skills, and so it made sense that he was stronger than almost if not all the characters. The webtoon is a fighting manhwa so I imagine it will be quite hard for the showrunners to replicate that into television in a more realistic way. Judging from how the first season handled it, I think it can definitely be pulled off though. I do also see now how much more potential this show had, however like I said previously the creators were not expecting this fame so I'm not really holding a grudge against it like I did with certain other shows *cough big mouth, revenge of others, and so on* for not living up to that full potential. It was also the first delinquent webtoon to be adapted into a kdrama (that I can think of, I am probably wrong) so there's that too. Your idea for a show would be amazing, would make me love the show even more than I already do, and to be honest if Weak Hero becomes incredibly popular in the future, and ends up having more than 2 seasons (which I truly hope it does) then that idea could possibly be used depending on how the writers deal with the events of the webtoon (I won't spoil who but someone else ends up in the hospital too).
probably gonna drop this, it's not because it's a bad show by any means but I absolutely cannot stand the "boomerang storytelling" of it (where it goes back and forth from childhood to adulthood), might just be because I have a low attention span though and find myself skipping the less interesting parts and also the ending was spoiled for me anyway
I mean Soo ho probably didn't even notice that Bum Seok followed him, I'd imagine the reason he followed Young-yi…
That's true but judging by the fact that they based s1 off the webtoon and also showed us that s2 is gonna be set in Eunjang (and also showed us Donald Na) we can assume that it's gonna have the same characters as the webtoon. After all we have already seen 3 characters already (Colton choi, Donald Na, and Kingsley Kwan)
Bad ending and mediocre beggining, if you're looking for a show to clean/cook dinner to, this one will be fine…
Many plot holes and a weak ending however it's still very enjoyable. I would always recommend this drama because it was entertaining and had a lot of interesting characters. Another example is True Beauty, while the story itself was pretty poorly done and bafflingly stupid it's one of the most popular dramas in the world and it's very enjoyable to watch.

I understand if you don't want to read this, my original "essay" was much longer but I cut it down. I could literally go on about this show for ages lol. I've read about 2/3 of Study Group, it's a little cliche however enjoyable nonetheless. I agree 100% if it was 16 eps long obviously it probably would've released later and there would need to be more to the story, but the pacing is essentially the only somewhat major issue with this show and to be honest everything else made me forget about it (as I said before). Although I assume you haven't read the webtoon I will tell you in my opinion the changes the show made were very good. For example (kind of spoiler but you said you knew how it went so I'll just go with it), in the webtoon story there was NO fights, Beom Seok was just a massive asshole in the story and the character in the show is more interesting, and Sooho was smart and athletic but not a fighter. The changes they made sort of changed the genre of it, yes both have revenge but WHC1 is more focused on other, more deeper things whereas the WH version is only there to be a backstory for the MC. I feel like if they had made it 16 episodes they could have spent a lot of that time exploring the characters more, and I generally mean Beom Seok and Soo ho. For Beom Seok I feel like his "turn to the dark side" felt a little rushed and sudden, and if it were spread out more I think the viewers would feel more sympathy for him. For Soo ho, we only really knew that he was an MMA fighter and likes to beat up bullies. Kind of reminds me of webtoon Si eun, but he had a backstory (this show) whereas Soo ho didn't really. I think a show of his past and why he is the way he is would've made his ending even more impactful and him an even more popular character. Anyway the creators of course did not know how big this drama would get and so I don't blame them for making this choice. Hopefully S2 will be 16 episodes, and I am super excited to see who they'll cast as my favourite webtoon characters. I also expect many more fight scenes and more violence.

it’s rated way too high imo and also another example is extraordinary you, the first 10 or so eps are good but after that it becomes boring and repetitive, though ig they are both made by the same person

Probably True Beauty. It has decent acting for the most part and humour, and is enjoyable to a degree (sometimes I can’t handle the cringe of it) however the story is absolutely terrible, it’s on par with MIIGB.

true however I don’t trust people on MDL, some people on this website (looking at kpop stans for the most part) have the most insanely ‘odd’ opinions on kdramas and taste in them, and let me repeat SOME people

I can definitely see what you mean, an example I’m thinking of is Gil-soo’s introduction, as I expected his arrival to come much later but straight away after the previous episode ended he shows up straight after. If he were to show up later while he was built up to be an intimidating figure or something alike I probably would’ve taken him more seriously lol. Anyway for me I still loved the show anyway and other than this there are many other aspects in which the show completes incredibly well or some may even say flawlessly, so me personally I still love this show even with its small amount of flaws
