I actually think it is a bit of the opposite. As far as I know, Queen Wongyeong was fundamental for the rise of…
I agree. As I wrote, it will be interesting to see this story told from Queen Wongyeong's point of view for once. I actually look forward to it, she was indeed one of the most political queens of Joseon and her actions, as well as her family, played a big part int the events at that time. It's just that, considering the few number of serious sageuk (meaning not rom-com) released every year, it's kind of disappointing to have one more sageuk about this period and these characters so soon, when there are countless other historical periods and characters ignored so far that could be portrayed too.
It's annoying that they keep doing such romances, where the feelings of the characters are obvious, and their actions too, but they keep making them misunderstanding and saying things they don't think, or assume things with the other not denying it immediately. I really whish they would stop that. Of course it's needed at the start to add some frusrtration and build the relationship, but when all the drama is based on that, and to make things resolved only in the last episode, it's kind of annying for me. Especially when, like this one, the characters are good, the actors, story, developments and production quite good too.
It is probably because of their more intimate and bashful relationship to feelings that Japanese romances always seem deeper and on another level compared to those produced in other countries for me. The relationship to aesthetics is also different. Of course it wouldn't hurt to have more natural and passionate kisses more often haha, but as usual, the only fault I find in this drama is its format, much too short.
King of Tears Lee Bang Won back in 2021-2022 was a good drama.
It was an average one for me. Didn't bring anything new to the previous multiple dramas and movies about the same subject. Not bad, but not good either for me. The last good epic sageuk I have watched is "My Country: The New Age" in 2019, and this one was very good, I love it.
The irony is that his best project was The K2.After that, it went all downhill for him, and this time he's back…
You can wrote your comment differently. It's only your opinion, and many would disagree with it. It's not that hard to write "for me" or "in my opinion" instead of writing like you state a fact or a general truth. "After that, it went all downhill for him" That's just totally wrong as he gained much more popularity since then (it was seven years ago...) and is still very busy with projects, but suits yourself if you want to believe so.
I expect many will criticise me for saying this, but I believe it's true nonetheless:When you get down to it,…
Well, I agree with you overall, however the thing is that the "viewers" aren't a homogeneous thing. Of course they are free to choose what they like and want to watch, but in that case many "viewers" who are focused on his pre-2017 works are especially loud to voice their preferences (here in particular), when it has already been seven years, and that his growing popularity and new works prove that, in fact, other viewers are okay with most of his choices, or at least still watch his projects even if they can dislike some. You wrote "If he were not getting the roles he wants, it's because the viewers don't want it. And that's their choice, not his!" That's not the case, and through his interviews Ji Chang Wook always explained in details why he choose to play a character, hoping that the viewers would see why he wanted to play this character and what he tried to do through his acting. Hoping, not expecting or focusing on what viewers would think. In the end he choose for himself, that's why I think that the ones that only focus on past action roles should move on. You like to use metaphors (me too ^^), so for me doing this is like protesting in front of a restaurant because they don't do the dishes you liked anymore, despite others liking the new ones just as much as the old one that is no longer served and the restaurant still being profitable and have new customers with this different menu. People are free to do so of course, that just seems a dumb thing to do for me. As for his role of Park Joon Mo, despite being part of the action type, he clearly stated why he still wanted to do it considering the psychological and moral conflits of the character and the overall script of the drama.
Simply one of the best actors, whatever the genre or character he plays, because of his capacity to play emotions and make you empathise at such a deep level. Looking forward to his next projects and roles, especially excited to see him in a sageuk again after ten years.
I expect many will criticise me for saying this, but I believe it's true nonetheless:When you get down to it,…
I disagree with your comment, not because it's not true that actor is a job, but because it doesn't take in consideration what happened and what he said for the last seven years since "The K2". On one side, there are some fans that are stuck over his roles in "Healer" and "The K2" and dislike and criticise everything he has done since then, emphasise that especially since his return after military service he only choose bad scripts. There are two problems with that though. First, he still had a steady and even growing fan base since 2016. An actor choosing bad projects for seven years don't become more and more popular over the years just for his good looks, he is slowly outcast and forgotten. It's seen everywhere and since cinema exist (even theatre!). And secondly, if all his projects were flops since 2017 (some were, for sure, but not all, far from that actually), he wouldn't keep receiving offers, and for such a high salary. On the other side, there is Ji Chang Wook, who expressed himself many (many !) times through interviews and clearly stated that he wanted to try as much different characters and stories as he would like, depending on the offers received, and wanting to explore many sides of humanism. Did he lack offers since 2016 ? Considering his filmography, no. And Korean news already informed that he is one of the highest paid actors in South Korea right now, so he has no problem to get a job and be (very well) paid for it. His latest interwiews are not pleads for anything as he has the same speech about this for the last seven years. At some point, people just need to move on if they only liked him for two roles in 2016 but dislike everything he has done since then.
I mean if you are talking about being rational and logical then you should have stopped watching from the beginning.…
That's common sense, I agree, but there are different degrees between things that aren't rational and cannot be overlooked in a drama or movie, depending on the genre, and of course it also differs from a person to another. This car accident was the one that was too much for me.
Why choose an original subject when you can simply take the story of the king with the most dramas and movies about him and just put it at the feminist sauce by centring it on his wife ? It might be good, I hope it will actually because it's interesting to see this story told from the point of you of Lee Bang Won's wife, but the lack of originality when it comes to the subjects and plots of sageuk is a little bit disappointing.
I may have a too rational and logical mind, but the car accident was a big let down for me in the final episode. Ki Chul is arrested in his office in Gangnam, to be brought to Gangnam Police Station, but Joon Mo who hear about it much later in an hospital not located just find them at the perfect time at an intersection and causes an accident that don’t kill Ki Chul nor hurt him that bad, and they flee together. Nope, not buying that sorry, too far-fetched for me. That’s the biggest flaw in the story, amongst other things, unfortunately. Too bad, I expected a better and thorough production and story development. It was still a good drama, the acting was flawless.
jistralights: extreme high fever may cause brain fog so it makes sense the confession and kiss turn into a hazy…
Well, with an extreme high fever a normal person is lying in a bed, not travelling around town (and doesn't look as good as Yamato on this bridge ^^), so that's still doesn't make sense for me.
The "I forgot I confessed and kissed you because I was sick" thing was actually stupid because it's totally unrealistic, but apart from that it's very good. I particularly like that they still have a frustrating relationship even if they say things to each others quite honestly, compared to stories where it's all misunderstandings until the finale episode. That's a very strong point I like in it.
Well, the overall acting wasn't that bad, it was actually quite okay for Nine and Mill. The production isn't the best neither but it's still pretty okay too. And history wise, it isn't worse than the crazy Thai Bls dramas and their all over the place plots and stories developments, it was actually interesting and new. So actually a nice one to watch, not the best but far from being bad I think.
Episode 8 was a big letdown for me because of the story development and characters actions. It wasn’t justified at all that Eui Jung involves herself even more with Ki Chul. It doesn’t bring anything to the mission and, on the contrary, it makes things more difficult for her husband. Especially when it was obvious that it would logically lead to the car scene. So I’m not happy with this development because it looks that the "love triangle" is forced in this story. And it’s the same for Joon Mo. Does his undercover mission really justifies that he has sex with Hae Ryeon ? That seems a little too much. But in the same time it was obvious that it would lead to that by pushing the flirt card, so it’s stupid, once again it feels forced for nothing. In his case I think it’s even worse because despite all his flashbacks and desperate looks, he was only « saved » by the interruption of Kang Gun, otherwise it seems he would have gone all the way. So just for the success of the mission ?! Seriously, I find this too loosely done, the character deserved better. Episode 9 was better, but I’m not so sure about the last 3 episodes now. We will have to wait and see next week. It’s still a good drama objectively, as the acting is flawless and the production amazing, but I didn’t expected this kind of characters developments, I didn't liked it.
I don't know why I missed it until then but I'm glad I finally discovered it, and so watching the 5 first episodes in a row was a blast. As always, it proves that Japanese BLs are superior to others. Once again, a simple plot, setting and story development, but so deep and emotional, with great production, and of course the aesthetic is superb.
The first episode wasn't that interesting for me, nothing really happened as they were installing the story and the characters, but episode 2 was really great. I like that it is not "filtered". It's violent, for sure, but at least it looks real and not faked. I look forward to the next episodes.
