It’s a movie, not a historical documentary. You act like people do not have different accents even though they speak the same language. If you’re really from Hong Kong, you’d actually explain what felt off instead of just throwing around “terrible cultural appropriation”— and not avoiding the question.
Right now it just sounds like big words without much substance behind them.

I rather it set in a fictional city and let them speck Mandarin to have sync sound, than having the whole fake/imitated…

This is a low-budget drama, not a big production trying to pass itself off as the definitive portrayal of Hong Kong. lacking perfect accuracy doesn’t automatically equal disrespect or appropriation. not everything has to be 100% authentic to be valid or enjoyable.
It’s okay to notice the flaws, but it’s also fair to view it within the limits they were working with and just enjoy it for what it is.

These are two different languages. No matter how good the dubbing the mouth movement will not make it believable. And the actors were not the voice actors.

The actors are not from Hong Kong. Only one from the second couple is from Hong Kong. The actors here are Chinese actors who spoke in Mandarin and their voices were dubbed in Cantonese voice actors.
Imagine shooting a telenovela in Spanish language and they only dub in English.
As i said earlier i would have loved it if it was shot in Cantonese language (and dubbed in Cantonese) than to be shot in Mandarin and dubbed in Cantonese
