I had the saaame thought process as you about this. Right down to needing to write something about it after finishing it.

The unresolved plots and the bittersweet open option was absolute bs. But my FREAKING GOSH. The relationships and the characters are the BEST written characters (besides the FL's irritable tendency to be too docile and a pawn for everyone else) I have EVER seen. Like, I know there was a lot of damsel in distress moments even outside the main couple, but literally all of their personalities, backstories, and watching them develop as people was unmistakably phenomenally done (MINUS THE MISSING RESOLVE FOR SOME UGH). It feels SO weird to say that given how much the plot really let you down, but wow. To be able to have SO many flaws and still stand out as one of the best dramas I've watched, is quite the feat on it's own lol. I LOVED the ML with my ENTIRE heart, absolutely *died* laughing when the Devil King was on screen, and felt my heart swell almost painfully for Richie. Even PK, Winter and Spring dude, the water king dude, Devil King's secretary (I'm terrible at remembering names if you can't tell lol), and the high priestess made my heart bleed for them. With all my heart I wanted a closing scene with them all in it, and I *still* gave it a 9/10 (i had to physically fight myself into giving it something lower than 10/10 lol). I want more of them all *sigh*

Also, I want to add, this version gave me a better understanding of the characters. I aways felt perplexed with some characters' decisions in the other versions, but I find this one made their reasoning unmissable and relatable. I really enjoyed that part--the just overall *knowing* what people are thinking rather than getting frustrated and annoyed at them for not explaining it properly and just moving on with the story.

2ML was a blessing. I typically get SUPER annoyed with his character (because in the other versions it felt unclear as to why he did things and even his selfless acts seemed loaded with expectations on the FL), but in this version I LOVED him. He was hands down the bestest friend to both ML and FL and so sweet and earnest. You didn't have to question where his loyalty was or what his end goals were--even when he tried to be mysterious or straight up lie about it, I just trusted the dude throughout the whole thing.... and he was just... So. Freaking. Attractive.

All boys over flower adaptions are practically the same! Frustrating and at times toxic and irritating (especially the antagonist cast), but sweet as you watch the characters develop to fit one another. If you didn't enjoy one version, I am very doubtful you would enjoy another version.

This was a really great version of BOF... but the lack of kisses was straight up excruciating! But besides that, it was a very sweet (and as always, frustrating) show that had its own unique touch that set it apart from the other adaptions. I just love this story so much. Also literally every male lead was so attractive i could die and the female leads were equally as beautiful. Such a great cast!

You should use the spoiler option for that for any actual watchers! Thankfully I'm not watching it, or else you would have spoiled something for me lol

It's SO different... the characters and development from S1 is just all wrong and completely missing :( S1 FL was optimistic and stubborn and had so much depth to her that didn't revolve around the ML! S2 FL seems to only revolve around obsessing over the ML. I'm so upset for her character devolution. Everyone has been dumbed down and that original spark is gone. :( I don't know why HDRA1 was hated so much that they went and completely changed everything....

I guess I'm going to have to wait it out until I'm distanced from S1 to give this season a chance. But I'm big sad about this lol

Just finished ep 1... I am not impressed.

2nd ML has turned into an idiot and FL is way too childish and stupid to fit the character in season one (S1 FL wasn't stupid, just optimistic and stubborn and had actual depth to her character that didn't involve ML... this S2 FL seems to revolve around being brainlessly obsessed with ML and that's it). All of the development from season one went completely out of the window and its unique factor has been replaced by another typical drama feel. Am I biased and bitter? perhaps... but I also feel like its original spark has been lost and like it's all become empty and shallow. I will probably try watching again later after distancing it from S1. It's probably good in its own right, you just can't go in with memories of S1 apparently. *big sad sigh bcuz I miss everything about S1*

I only watched HDRA 1 because of the FL actress :( I'm so sad they replaced her!! I love her acting. I fell in love with her in Forever Love and she's such a blessing to see act. That being said, no hate to the new FL actress, I'm just gonna be a bit salty. I hope it's just as good as season 1. (I have no clue why there is so much hate on season 1, I thought it was absolutely enthralling and only had very few flaws.) I really hope the chemistry is still there between all the leads--I was obsessed with how much chemistry 2nd ML had with FL. Fingers crossed!

Anyone else having 2nd ML syndrome? He's surprisingly so cute and the exact type of lead that I like (a bit silly, but genuine for FL, and just an overall fun and sweet vibe). I'm really beating my head over here trying to wish FL well on her journey with ML. But I can't help myself wish for it to turn into a love story about 2nd ML and her. *sigh* I'm only on episode 4 and I can already feel the indignation coming out of me lol

Maybe it's because I'm a writer myself, but I was hooked from beginning to end. The idea of a plot hole coming back to haunt an author this much is genuinely hilarious and entertaining to me. And also, the chemistry between the leads was so very tangible. How don't people like it?! I'm so shook at the comments. I rarely rate things very high, but this is 10/10 for me (even if FL did occasionally get me irritated from how SLOW she was in her reactions lol). But idk, I feel like before you listen to all the negativity you should try it out for yourself. This was adorable and so fun and emotional all in one.

This is a long shot, seeing the comments, but has anyone found English subtitles for the last 5 episodes yet?

I only watched 1 episode (a bit of the 2nd ep as well), and i just cannnn't. I'm WAY too into 2nd ML--how he looks after her but respects her choices, and does things for her (like grabs her coat off the ground when she runs off) is SO romantic and adorable. I can't watch this if she doesn't end up with him *cry* OR if they change his sweet character. I refuseeee, I love him how he is way too much in episode one to watch his apparent slow demise into crazy town lol.

I got a BONE to pick with this drama. First of freaking all, wtf?! WHO decided ANY of this plot involving the ML was alright? Besides for FL being super cute even while being dimwitted, ML is literally an abusive pos... You know what, here, have this summed up version and save yourself the frustration of waiting around for a redemption arc that probably NEVER comes. (at least not 21/28 eps)

ML:
--> *physically and emotionally abuses FL for the fun of it, or because he is projecting, or she says something completely true that he doesn't like*
--> *only ever gives 'gifts' to FL as an apology for the abuse whenever his guilt builds up after like 5 incidences of abuse and it makes HIM feel yucky*
--> *never actually considers (or even learns how to consider!) how the FL is feeling, it's all about HIS feelings and HIS issues*
--> *uses death threats to coerce FL into doing what he wants her to do, despite her not wanting to do it*
--> *doesn't value anybody's life, especially not his servants (AKA FL) who do everything for his spoiled entitled arrogant @ss*
--> *treats people like animals--but like, really badly kept animals that are used as mere tools*
--> *literally is the cause of the CREEPIEST 'gender reveal' shtick that a cross-dressing drama has ever done*
--> *DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER FOR 21 EPISODES AND PROBABLY MORE*
--> *tries to make you feel bad for HIM the freaking AUDACITY of this bish*
--> *Has literally NO redeeming qualities, and nothing to justify his constant bs--even his beautiful face isn't enough!*
--> *even after the gender reveal, he is a terrible person who only ever thinks about what he wants and suddenly thinks FL is his property*
--> *has an attitude change that is somehow even WORSE when learning FL's gender by going from a cold abusive arrogant @sshole, to a possessive entitled misogynistic abusive arrogant @sshole*
--> *doesn't even have a moment of 'wow I'm a terrible human for making a girl go through that' even if he should realize he's terrible without FL's gender being revealed... BUT STILL. Not one thought about how much of a d*ck he was to her. NO SHAME. He's just like... making it all about hiiiiiiim agaaaaain*
--> *makes you want to punch him in his beautiful face every time he or FL imagine/dream some stupid unrealistic fantasy of them together because HA. as if!*
--> *makes you realize if someone can't treat a human being with respect because they don't have the option to sleep with them, then they AREN'T A GOOD PERSON and their nice act is so insincere even if they suddenly put it on when that option is suddenly available to them (should be noted, that I haven't even SEEN ML be nice to FL by episode 21, but I KNOW SOME SUPERFICIAL BS CHANGE IS FREAKING COMING).*

I'll give it to the drama: ML is fcking consistent, that's for freaking sure. The dood blatantly refuses to ever be better.

2ndML:
--> *asks something of FL which she promptly says no to* "I would never force you" *does things behind her back to literally force FL into doing what she said no to at least 3 or more times* *clearly doesn't gaf about what FL actually wants*

ahhhh seriously. wtf. there isn't even cute scenes where ML is staring at FL all lovingly or doing sweet things in secret for her (it's only ever the opposite--and I've watched Mischievous Kiss, and that was WAY more affectionate than this bs). SUCH A WASTE OF A CUTE FACE FOR ML. I can't with this drama and have no clue how it got a rating higher than like MAYBE 4/10 (the settings, FLs clumsy adorableness, and mystery plot are interesting and fun which sucks since the 'romance' absolutely kills its high potential imo).

Thank you for your comment and the validation on my thoughts on it! The low scoring and bad reviews were so surprising to me at first, but after reading them it made sense. They did such a phenomenal job at portraying the inner psychological warfare occurring, that no one even notices it’s there!! That’s incredible and SO dang realistic (mental health/trauma isn’t something you can always see). But so sad since due to that it doesn’t have the recognition it truly deserves.

I’m glad it could reach you though! If you ever rewatch it, I hope you see these things for yourself. It’s so so cool. (i’m a sucker for psychology)

That's not the issue, unfortunately. She acts 'girly' (stereotypically girly at least) at really terrible times when everyone is around her, and then acts like a robot when she's alone with the ML who already knows she's a girl. lol it's just annoying to see her not use that strength and control in the important scenes (and vice versa). As pretty as the setting is, the plotline is pretty infuriating. I watch a lot of cross dressing dramas so I just wish they did that part better. Besides, you don't need to be a girl to show affection and that you actually care for and respect someone. Just watch any men's sport team, there's a lot of love between the guys.

I have no words. Okay, I have a few: what an amazing drama.

Holy macaroni I am at the edge of my seat. The build up alone in this drama is outstanding. This went from an 8.5 to an absolute 10 for me. While the romance had me at the beginning, I am now fully absorbed in the political plots and action (honestly the romance is frustrating as hell... but I don't even care all that much). My god, it's amazing. I don't think I've ever been this insanely intrigued by the non-romantic part of a drama. The PLOT TWISTS! I am going to have SEVERE trust issues. Literally every character in this dang drama has made my head spin *at least* twice. Phenomenal. And this boy's ACTING--scratch that, everyone's acting. But especially ML... and his character is absolutely d i v i n e. Find you a man that embraces femininity without any embarrassment, and you will have the best kind of masculine man ever, i swear. This literally proves it. I'm in love. Seriously, if you haven't picked this one up yet and you enjoy historical dramas, watch it. I thought it was going to be some silly, fluffy rom-com. I've never been so glad to be so wrong. (It's still fluffy and funny, but it's intense, its heartbreaking, it's --for lack of a better word-- badass, and it's hella~ unpredictable.)

I'm so hoping this drama keeps it up all the way to the end.

My worry is when ML finds out, what he'll do. I'm so so hoping he'll be strong and stick with her though.

I'm beyond impressed with how they've still managed to give me butterflies even 15 episodes later. Normally by now someone's being unreasonably cold to their partner due to them feeling the need to protect them. But here we have these two giving me ALL the butterflies. My Atlanta, I love this drama to the moon and back and then some (even though it makes me nervous as heck to watch an ongoing show). 1000/10

I would so watch it too! Regulations suck imo :(

I swear this is the only drama I can wait for and not lose interest. It's incredible and I hope it keeps the same energy until the end.
