Holy macaroni I am at the edge of my seat. The build up alone in this drama is outstanding. This went from an 8.5 to an absolute 10 for me. While the romance had me at the beginning, I am now fully absorbed in the political plots and action (honestly the romance is frustrating as hell... but I don't even care all that much). My god, it's amazing. I don't think I've ever been this insanely intrigued by the non-romantic part of a drama. The PLOT TWISTS! I am going to have SEVERE trust issues. Literally every character in this dang drama has made my head spin *at least* twice. Phenomenal. And this boy's ACTING--scratch that, everyone's acting. But especially ML... and his character is absolutely d i v i n e. Find you a man that embraces femininity without any embarrassment, and you will have the best kind of masculine man ever, i swear. This literally proves it. I'm in love. Seriously, if you haven't picked this one up yet and you enjoy historical dramas, watch it. I thought it was going to be some silly, fluffy rom-com. I've never been so glad to be so wrong. (It's still fluffy and funny, but it's intense, its heartbreaking, it's --for lack of a better word-- badass, and it's hella~ unpredictable.)
I'm so hoping this drama keeps it up all the way to the end.
I didn't realize I had high expectations for this drama until I felt majorly let down by it. I'm not even halfway and the FL is giving me a headache. I don't normally get annoyed by FLs easily either, but maybe it's how (despite how it appears in a lot of scenes with woman characters) they've kept the traditional gender roles pretty unchanging.
I'm pretty sure if someone (man or woman) is trained to be soldier, they wouldn't completely break down in the middle of a fight. I mean, sure, great heroic scene for our ML but c'mon. Soldiers are trained to act first during combat. How many times does she just watch bad things happen and only react based on her emotions instead of her of her training? And you definitely don't just sit there and grieve over a few deaths until AFTER the fight is done, my god. (how long did she sit there and just dissociate while the officers were literally on the other side of the car?). Ugh, Idk, I just expected a strong FL and got a stereotypical FL instead. (Also frustrating to watch her interact with the ML when they aren't play fighting, arguing, or scheming together. It's obvious she has emotions since she's always acting on them stupidly, but apparently all that goes out the window whenever he even tries to do something nice for her. Like dang, how many times did she point the finger at him? Shouldn't soldiers base their findings on... idk... evidence?)
Okay, rant done. Still worth it for now because the ML and 2nd ML make up for FLs faults. Also, maybe unpopular opinion, but the chemistry between ML and 2nd FL is off the charts. Hoping I see development in the FL though. Besides that, it's absolutely beautiful. The settings and aesthetics are just phenomenal. I want men to wear suits for casual wear again.
Give it a shot if you're hesitant.
But I agree, her getting her title revoked is perfect for her to live her own life. But yes, grandpa is definitely going to take that away from her too. :(
I'm going to assume that the woman that wrote the book had no clue how gay relationships worked and completely disregarded reality. If this is what she assumed a BL relationship is like, it's safe to say she was absolutely uneducated and following gross stereotypes and deserves those labels. It's a shame, a lot of BL dramas follow the same trope (like men have to be drunk and unconsenting in order to recognize their feelings??).
I think he left because he still felt uncertain about whether the feelings were mutual. He came back because he finally decided to trust what he felt--trust that it wasn't one sided and trust that the CP was unhappy unless with him. So he's all like, 'i'm not leaving your side regardless of what you say--because I know you're lying for my sake and you feel the same way'. He's not asking to marry her or even for her not to marry anyone else or anything, I think it's just about being there together.
And finally: She's been so concerned with just surviving until they met again. It's a very: living over survival sort of show imo. Like, what's the point to anything if you aren't really living? It's a mutual thing: she's been trying to save him, but he's basically saying 'screw that, I don't want to be saved if I'm not with you'. So choosing love over death seems to be where its heading. I'm hoping for a happy ending, but who knows.
Anyways, that's my thoughts on it. I might have rose coloured glasses on, but a rose tint on everything is pretty nice so I'll keep them on hahah
