I think him breaking down in front of Haejun alone was the point. He didn't want his family seeing him in such state but when he learned that Haejun understood him he's able to do so, obviously they are gonna show eveytime Sanha runs to Haejun but I think that was implied. As for the mother saying sorry, some people don't change no matter the circumstances it's best he cut ties with her now knowing he did all he could.
