Imo it's looking to be the most interesting role she's played so far from all the dramas I've watched with her. You can watch her character grow and completely change throughout the story. I noticed that in many of her past roles, her character is someone who is already strong. Whereas for this one, she starts from scratch and develops over time. Every character is very complex and multi dimensional as well.

There are also many emotional scenes, which I think she excels at the most. They might add some fluff since it's an idol drama, but I would say the novel leans towards the realism of war. Of course, this could all change in the drama, but from the limited leaks we have, it seems pretty similar to the novel so far. It's also her first S+ drama as the FL!

Without spoiling too much, the novel is a sad ending with the extra chapters making it a happy ending (but like 3 sentences of it). But from the supposed leaks and rumours, it seems like the drama changed the ending so we're not sure whether it will be a HE or BE in the drama.

The trauma is mainly from how throughout the whole story, it's just continuous angst and is very emotionally draining. There are a few sweet and joyful moments which hits hard because of how precious these moments are and you really feel the two leads deserves it. However, as soon as happiness appears, sadness is lurking.

I really hope they keep the scene where both of them stood outside because they were scared to talk to Nan Yi and the book called both of them cowards. It was in the same chapter as this scene. The only time I laughed during the whole novel but it was so good.

It needs to keep the angst because it's the core theme of the novel! Otherwise it'll just end up as another typical idol costume historical drama we've all seen 1000x times before.

Hmm, technically this is still an idol drama right? But of course all of us here hope they try to avoid going down route. Otherwise we'll instantly lose the strengths of the novel's nature of realism and angst. I wonder how many sets they actually need to build though since majority of the story is in the same place.

Wasn't he more of a strategist or did I remember wrong? I don't even know where you could put extra war scenes that fits though. The novel never really focused on war scenes but on an intelligence war instead.
I hope they spend that money on the OST, like how First Frost spent their S+ money on it, with more than double the usual songs and many bangers.

I feel like his screentime has only been around 5-10% of each ep in the past few episodes. Anyways, I won't spoil much, you can watch and see for yourself!

I haven't read Zhu Yu's novel but Xie Zheng became so irrelevant in the latter half of the drama... Feels like if you just removed him from the past 10 episodes, so far nothing would've changed lol

Yeah that's what I thought too. Especially if it's the last episode, does that mean they cut out the last 6 chapters and just go straight from winning the war to an ending? Not much time to wrap up the story.
