I don't understand exactly what is being said or the writing, but I do recognize the name 'Zhang Yue Hui' and…
There's no mention of ZYH or jealousy. Pretty much TJC found a game called 'you if I meet you, you have to marry me'. He started playing the game and met a cat (LYX is the cat). He says he needs to avoid the cat, but then goes, "Wait, why am I avoiding the cat? It's my own cat." Then the gun went off (idk if this is a reference to another meme???). TJC is then married to LYX and he goes 'how come I am married to a cat'.
I don't really get Chinese memes... their humour is like on another level compared to the western zoomers.
I don’t think there is much to worry about with this drama. So far everything that I have seen, from the costumes,…
I haven't watched or looked into The Veil so I don't know much about it (though the ratings looked ok even in Korea). But yeah I wasn't mainly talking about winning the competition, but just an example of actors choosing a script even from a new screenwriter. Especially, IU has always said she's an artist first, and acting was a side challenge. (I dont know much about TJC so I can't comment on him). Not sure if you followed the story behind Perfect Crown, but there were rumours MBC was originally going to use a new director. Then suddenly, IU and BWS accepted the role, so they had to scramble and find a veteran director.
But I get what you mean by setting expectations based on their past work (like employing someone for a job). We can just hope it turns out well. I'm not sure how much freedom the directors have in c-ent, but bad scripts can still be salvaged if the director is good. TBH, I think I will be happy as long as the script isn't bad, as I'll be happy watching the cast anyway.

I feel like the problem is they produce these dramas like fast food. Grab any existing IP. Then try adapt it in the cheapest and fastest way possible so they can then move onto the next project and repeat. And repeating the same tropes and scenes over and over again is the fastest way to film because they've done it before.

I guess you can look at it the same way as IU's upcoming drama Perfect Crown. I know it hasn't aired yet so we don't know if it's good or not, but the script was won from MBC's screenwriting competition so its written by someone completely new. Yet it's probably the most anticipated kdrama of the year so far.
IU is someone who only picks scripts she likes and is interested in because she doesn't need to accept roles offered to her. Can kinda compare it to what TJC is doing as well, in picking scripts he likes only and deems good enough. I think LYX did some DWTT promotion today in an interview at the drama quality awards.
It is inevitable that there will be changes in a novel adaptation because what works on paper doesn’t necessarily…
I'm actually so curious how they will adapt it here, given how heavy the inner monologues were in the novel. Like, the scheming is usually explained when character A explains it to character B. But our 2 leads pretty much work alone the majority of the time and keep their inner thoughts to themselves.
If I remember correctly, no one else understands either of them as well except the two leads themselves.
After seeing the discussion about how important the director and scriptwriter were and how faithful they were…
I've always believed adaptations are chances for the writer to improve and elevate on the original source rather than just simply copying and blindly following it. It's especially the case when it's two completely different medium (film vs novel) where the pro and cons of both differs.
But this only applies if the team behind it actually has passion for the original IP to create something good rather than just using the IP as a cash grab of course hah.
I'm always surprised by how little emphasis there is on the director and screenwriter. I guess that's why we call…
Haha I think cnets in general, are so negative and get upset over every trivial thing and are easily rallied by others. Nvm about the script thing, thanks @FIRST CHOICE for correcting me then.

I think they only get the first portion (like the first 10 eps or whatever) of the script before they have to accept the role though right? Fingers crossed it stays consistent and has good writing throughout! Hopefully the comment from the actress is based on the script as a whole. Been burned too many times with a good premise, then a train wreck midway through. I haven't watched anything from the director though, so I don't know much about him.
Haha, but they've already stirred up a lot of hate from the loyal novel fans on ROMEOM! I guess every situation is different, and it really depends on the producers, investors, billing, fans, and the IP involved. Like, look what happened to Who Rules the World that got changed drastically though ofc the IP wasn't as big. But that's why I said we just need to wait and see what happens.
Suddenly after watching zhu yu i realised, screenwriting is equally important for a drama along with direction,…
I'm always surprised by how little emphasis there is on the director and screenwriter. I guess that's why we call these idol dramas, because the main demographic that watches this type of films are mainly here for the idols. The director is by far the most important role in filmography, and it's why in Hollywood, it's such a praised role. (E.g. If you look at the recent Knives Out 3 movie, the main reason the cast was so stacked was that heaps of actors want to work with the director).
These days, I find I use actors as my curiosity to check out a drama but my expectations are 100% based on the director/screenwriter. The first thing I do is always check out the director/screenwriter. I was so disappointed in Genie, Make a Wish because the screenwriter wrote so many amazing dramas in the past but GMW was just a mess. It's probably why I'm not sure what expectations to set for DWT yet (of course I'm still highly anticipating it and hope it's good). Because while the cast is good, the writer is unknown, as you said. There's only so much the actors can do even if they act their heart out if the writing and directing are bad.
But honestly, even if I were a good writer, I wouldn't even want to write for idol dramas, knowing how much backlash fans make because they care about their leads screentime more than good writing. Or the restriction in creative freedom because the producers will want to get their money's worth from investing in their first billing lead (Pretty much what's going on with Rebirth of the Malicious Empress, but guess we'll have to wait and see what happens there)
Haha I think I pictured Gusha as those chubbier looking ones and Jun as those evil scheming ministers. Good point on the age being close to the princess! Never thought about that probably because it was revealed at the end so my mind has already been set on what he looked like.
I must have missed that description! I think it just instantly came to my mind because so many villain generals who are filled with lust use this type of image in other dramas
I've never thought that there will be so many hate comments
Sadly I think the biggest weakness of the script (or cut out due to ep limit) was they didn't explore Ming Yi's past properly which creates a lot of frustrations.
If you don't try to really understand and delve into why Ming Yi is the way she is, I can see why people get frustrated at her decisions.
I was really excited for the express release today but ep.24 left me utterly disappointed. It made me realise…
I strongly disagree with the FL being hypocritical. She's not angry at the incident or the past. Watch the next episode because she expresses how she felt very bluntly to the ML and it's very valid.
I found it better than LITC. It's not as intense with the plot since its a modern drama after all but the writing…
Oh sorry I misread your comment! Thought you were asking if this is better than LITC.
I meant I found love between lines better than love in the clouds. I personally felt the writing for LITC fell off mid way and the first half of the drama was a lot better.
I would say LITC was carried by the chemistry between the two leads so I still loved it because of that.
TJC is then married to LYX and he goes 'how come I am married to a cat'.
